A moment of heaven

A holy banquet
a feast of grace
a moment of heaven
here upon the earth

All of us coming
welcome at the table
the sacrifice of our Savior
that we all may live

A moment of heaven
the thin place of faith
bringing us so close
we can see our Maker’s face

A Life of Worship (2)

not just on Sunday
not real if it is
a life of worship
focused on God
communing with our Maker
our Savior, redeemer
walking with the Spirit
indwelling within
a life of worship
living together
in love with our God
giving all unto him

Into the Deep Waters

The symbolism of death
into the deep waters
the tomb of the waters
wrapped around us
Falling with Christ
into the waters
turning to him
we rise as he does
up to the heavens
in the arms of our Maker
the path the Saviors charts
guided by the Spirit
leading us ever
out of the deep waters
into the light

Dying and Rising

Dying and rising
up from the tomb
the pit of our suffering
the death we have earned
from the waters rising
into the light
commissioned for a purpose
though we are salt
carrying Christ’s message
his message of love
out into the world
to where we are led

Going as we are called
turning our lives in an instant
dropping our nets

going on a moment’s notice
when our Savior calls
going where we are led
giving God our all

In the arms of your grace
trusting in you Lord
for all things

without provisions

From Grace to Grace into Grace

Our lives, the journey
the fulfillment
relationship, with God,
from grace, wooing us,
to grace, saving us,
into grace, abiding with us
transforming us, renewing us
as if we are the clay,
on the potter’s wheel
made into God’s into

if we submit to him
turning our lives over
wholly trusting in God
for all

The Unearned Gift

Given for us
without merit
unearned and undeserved
the gift of God
calling us to him
changing us completely
washed by his blood
redeemed and made whole
brought back to him
coming, like the prodigal
from the pit, from death
like Lazarus, when he called,
come, returning to our Father
the breach healed
reunited, into relationship
into the flock, as a child,
a beloved child
in our Father’s house
feasting on the fatted calf.

Becoming the Lamb of God

The stuff of heaven
grace within him
God’s love of man
the clay of his body
born like us
of the dust of the earth
Your Spirit upon him
giving him life
sent for Your purpose
into Your world
becoming the lamb of God
offering himself for us
that we would be redeemed
brought back into God’s presence
from the darkness
into the light.

Seasons of Grace

The triune God
like the seasons of grace
three yet one
the Father, Son, and Spirit
Grace like the Spirit
like a cloud around us
Grace like the Son
redeeming us
in the moment we believe
and Grace like our creator
the potter reforming us
like the refiner’s fire
burning away our imperfections
making us new
into his reflection
into the image of God
redeemed by his grace
bus abiding love
God’s amazing grace
pouring down from above.

about our desires

in dying for us
that we may live
a costly gift for him;
but a free gift
given freely, hoping

Perfectly Fulfilled

God’s plan, his promise
perfectly fulfilled,
the Son, the Messiah
becoming the Lamb of God
submitting to suffer
drinking the cup
in the garden that night
giving his all to God
offering his body
taking on our shame
that we would be cleaned
healed of our brokenness
dying, that we may live.

Belonging to God

We are marked
not just by the waters
the Father, the Son,
the Spirit, marked
upon our lives
sealed, as with wax,
claiming us from our start
belonging to God, the King
lent only to us
those in community
fathers, mothers
neighbors, family
joined with Him
to raise them up
into his way, his light
for his holy purpose.

Wooing Each Prodigal

God’s grace, like the cloud
descending, as on the mountain
falling upon Moses
speaking to him
out of our Master’s love
for his people
all the people on earth
calling, seeking
wooing each prodigal
from the world
calling, speaking
to each son, each daughter
from the distant country
home again, with him
into his arms of grace
home, to him
abiding in his love.

The Gift that God Offers

Oh so rich, resplendent
the gift that God offers
how he ached
in the garden
when they found their nakedness
The tears of God washing
the living water
his pain, his sacrifice
healing the breach
the rift that man created
offering each of us
God’s arms, his forgiveness
salvation in Christ
his body, his blood
poured out on us
bringing us back to him
into his sweet embrace

guided by our beliefs
focused on our ideals
the treasure that we keep
Hearing that small voice
the commitments that we make
following our passions

not floating on the waves

the path of our lives
we have been given that power
to seek our own course

Being the wave

Being the wave
the movement, with power
guided by our priorities
the center of our lives

We can lead
given the free will
to choose or to let others
chart the course of our days

We can be the wave
the master of our path
we have the choice to follow
where our Savior has led

Not being the ripple

We can be masters
choosing our own path
for good or for evil
we have free will

We can be driven
like a leaf on the waters
blown by the winds
the breezes of the world

We can choose
not to be the ripple
to be the keel
guiding our own course

We are given
the choice to choose
or to let others
call the tune

our path following the breeze
chosen by others

leading us from You

but we are to the vessel
our priorities for our choosing

Consciously chosen

walking with a purpose

giving our lives over

to others in our lives

Just Healing

Not wanting notice, attention
not wanting to delay the Master
she reached out to touch him
just to be healed
A miracle coming
from the depth of her believing
Christ pausing to affirm her
that she would be healed
the pain taken away
knowing she was his daughter
healed completely
by her faith in God

The Fabric of the Fringe of His Cloak

Not needing to touch him
to delay him from his purpose
wanting merely to touch
the fabric of the fringe of his cloak
even the ragged pieces

Only to be near him
to walk beside our Master
to reach out from the crowd
to feel his power

Only to be Whole

She came from the crowd
with them to see Jesus
wanting to be near him
to touch his cloak
in passing

Only to be whole
not to make a big scene
wanting to be able to touch
the Master in his passing
so that she would be healed.

Revealing himself
in the words of scripture
speaking directly to us
across the sands of time

All of the promises
words given to the prophets
all the words
fulfilled in the Christ

God loving us
fulfilling all scriptures
descending to earth
that we would believe

Revealing himself

A Beloved Daughter

I pray she becomes aware
of her holy position
redeemed by our Savior
our risen Lord

A beloved daughter
a saint of the kingdom
one who is counted
in the flock of our Shepherd

God knows you
walking ever with you
indwelling in your heart
how you live your life

Something very special
a beloved daughter
a witness of God’s grace
offering your love

A rock of the community
a saint of the faithful
may you walk with him

Repenting

Like Peter repenting
coming before God
kneeling before our Savior
giving him our all
Bowing before him
offering him our lives
giving up our control
trusting in God

Weeping before the mirror

Standing in the light
coming from the shadows
weeping before the mirror
the truth of our desertion
running from our Master
denying our Savior
like Peter when the cock crowed
knowing our sin, our disgrace

Denying Christ

The foundation, the rock
crumbling in sorrow
denying Christ, his Master
crying in the street

Bitter in his rebellion
denying he knew his name
restored by Christ’s blessing
healed in Galilee

lost in the night

Redeemed in Christ’s mercy
on this rock the foundation
feeding the sheep in love

Forgiven One

Peter in the shadows
hiding his face
denying he knew him
swearing in disgrace

Forgiven by our Savior
falling to his knees
giving all his power
that we would be redeemed

Submitting to our Master
answering his call
going where he led him
giving us his all

Offered Living Water

The woman restless
there in the hot sun
seeking water from the well
conversation instead

Offered living water
a relationship with God
bound by her understanding
not hearing Christ’s offer

Life everlasting
communion with him
walking with our Savior
that we would truly live

Each of us offered
living water by Christ
only to accept it
to walk in life with him

The Thirst of God

In his tiredness
seeking a drink
sitting at the well
when she came to him
seeking to fill her jars
to gather the water
offered by our Savior
living water to drink
The thirst of God tempered
set aside, abandoned
offering us living water
never to go thirsty
able to live,
to go and serve our neighbors
the Spirit flowing in us
guiding our trembling feet

tired by his journey

never to know thirst
if she could comprehend

At the well of living water

She stood before Jesus
offering him a drink
the thirst of the Lord quenched
but offering her far more
at the well of living water
water flowing
offered to her, heaven
if she would accept him
seeing beyond
the physical, the common
the Lord before her
offering her himself
the offering of eternity
of the living water
if she would accept it
she would have life

Our Attitude of Heart

The question of conscience
our attitude of heart
our response to Christ
to the offering of grace

Do we see ourselves
in the words of the book
do we dare to admit
do we dare to look

How do we respond
to his offering of love
do we welcome him in, or
do we close the door in his face

To the Invitation of Christ

How will we respond
to the invitation of Christ
how do we respond
to the call of the one
our Shepherd, our Savior
our brother, our God
the one who died for us
that we may live
that we may not be bound
by the wages of sin
that we may live again
in the arms of our Maker
with him in heaven
in the courts of our Lord
how will we respond
to the offer of grace
will we run to him
or spit in his face

Responding to Christ

Each of us different
interacting with our Savior
his offer of salvation
wooing us to him
offering himself
all of his body
giving over to the Father
taking on our sin,
suffering, dying
that we may live

We in turn
all of us different
in responding to Christ
whether we will live
if we will follow
transformed by his mercy
or if we will choose
to turn and walk away

The Struggle with the Cup

To understand our journey
Christ’s struggle with the cup
knowing his purpose
but not wanting to suffer
to trust in the Master
his Father, our Father
his Lord and our Lord
wanting to live
to not have to struggle
yet submitting to suffering
that we would live
so that we may live
to witness, in service
giving our all
over to God
that we would follow
the example of our Shepherd
drinking of the suffering
that others may live
seeing our witness
our journey through life’s struggles
faithfully walking
with our Savior, our God.

Strength through our surrender

To live in mission
humble toward our Maker
giving all we are
in the service of our Lord

Strength through our surrender
our lives turned over to God
walking with our Savior
all of our days

Giving ourselves over
as Christ did in the garden
recognizing the folly
of our allusion of control

Ours to remember
the evil, the struggles
the times of trial
the journey of our clay
Wanting to forget
to bury the evil
yet the story somehow richer
when we remember
God’s presence in the shadows
the moments of little death
with us always
in our journey of faith

Grasping his cross firmly

We are to be like Jesus
submitting to God
taking up our cup
the bile of sacrifice
to take up our cross
as did our Savior
grasping his cross firmly
going to Calvary
We are his servants
his friends, children
brothers and sisters
children of the king
we are to be light
salt of the earth
our clay quickened
by his Spirit within
leading us to share
to bear his light, faithful
offering power
in the healing he can bring
sharing freely
far from our comfort
offering Christ to all

Our stories, our lives
if we are authentic
if we sacrifice
not like the rich man
before Jesus

Exposed tissue
what it means to be salt
sharing our witness
to be light upon the earth

Nothing held back
no matter how painful
sharing the truth with others
that they may live

through the shadows,

sharing our story, the choice to submit
to be the sacrifice

Raising the Cups to his lips

Layers of memory
a row of cups before him
like Christ in the garden
submitting to God
in turn taking each
raising the cups to his lips
drinking the bitterness
that we may live
Sharing his story
the pain inflicted
God beside
all of his days
the memories painful
far more than uncomfortable
the bitterness of history
dredged to the fore
offered to us
as pain, as sacrifice
as a means of sharing
the depths of God’s love
here with us
through all our struggles
lifting us up
when life knocks us to the floor

Tears before the telling

As if we are in the garden
that night with Jesus
his body shaking
tears before the telling
his story of evil
wrought in his life
The message of covenant
of walking with our Savior
through the trials
struggles
the walk of our lives
each of us needing
to be mindful of this message
a glimpse of God’s love
pouring down on us
lifting us up.

Power in the pain

There is power in the pain
the struggles of our lives
offering hope to others
of the depths of God’s love

We must share our stories
how we came to believe
how God walks beside us
in the trials of our days

For All Mothers

For those before us
for our mothers
our wives
our daughters
For all mothers
on this your day
we honor thee

Giving us, out of love
care and nurture
raising all your children up
out of your love
Healing us when we are hurting
cheering when we
need your praise

Life coming from you
new creations
so small, vulnerable
from this we come
To walk this earth,
without the mothers
none of us would exist.

Opening Wounds

Cutting through old tissue
scars of his journey
opening wounds
from deep in his past
Bearing his witness
God’s presence with him
in all of his trials
walking with him
in all of his life
with him, beside him
carrying him in love

In Loving Relation

Like God and his children
in covenant relation
husbands and wives
united in love
in loving relation
living together
sealed as one
called to another
to re-present Christ
to each other

A Poet

The first thought
in silent answer
to the question
who am I

Loud and clear
with no disquiet
not a range of other choices
the voice inside me
resolute, a single message

A poet is
who I am
called to serve
to share your message
the words you give me
to share in love
to your world

Let me be
a different attorney
because I walk
with our risen Lord

Let me be
ever faithful
to be your servant
in the world

Guide my steps
Holy Spirit
teach me your way
of total love

Change me ever
for your purpose
to go in love
into your world

To speak with power
from your mercy
to share your message
to your people

The lost sheep
timid followers
all of these
back to you

Show me how
I may serve you
call to me
and I will go

The Challenge of Jesus

The challenge of Jesus
in his offer
come, follow
go into the world

Our hearts timid
slow to action
needing to have
winged feet

All we are
given to Jesus
to go and be
his hands and feet

Come, follow
calls our Master
to serve
our fellow man

If we answer
here I am Lord
send me out
to serve in love

The joy in heaven
when we answer
when we heed

Will we follow

The urgent question
when our Savior calls
will we follow
will we give him our all?

The disciples followed
leaving their nets
their lives changing in an instant
going where they were led

We too, in our time
hearing our Savior’s call
will we go where he leads us
will we follow at all?

alive, made able

The Pain of Those Memories

Sacrificial, out of his love
sharing Christ humbly
dredging the poison up
the pain of those memories
filling that awful cup
yet putting it to his lips
in testimony, in love
sharing his walk of faith,
the story of his life
healing us with these words
his story of God’s love

focused on the cross

feasting at his table
tears of joy welling up

only to say yes to his offer
