out of hiding – v3

Away from the wadi
going to Zarephath
relying on the widow
trusting in God;
A prophecy of promise
God to provide
all of their needs

Ruby Slippers – v2

A pair of ruby slippers
sequined and well-worn;
Old friends gingerly placed,
lovingly left for another day

I don’t know their owner;
but I have seen the smiles, the glee
I can imagine, from my own little princesses
and their joy in dress-up;
time when their wonder, magic,
rubs off on me

Oh, I can imagine her so well
and the giggles that erupt
each time she slips them back on;
these old friends left for another day
placed just so

In Native Tongues – v4

The book, the story opened,
revealed in a blaze, an instant,
in fire on that morning
in words impossible
languages unknown
(to those who were speaking)
made accessible, reachable
in native tongues, in words understood
by the believers gathered
those faithful in Jerusalem

The words of ancient scripture
come alive before them,
the power of that Pentecost
meeting each where they were
spreading God’s love, His truth
His message of reconciliation;
The disciples commissioned
empowered, emboldened,
evangelists now, fishermen speaking
in each one’s native tongue

Call to Worship: Psalm 104:31-33 (NIV)
Unison Prayer,
“Almighty God, Giver of knowledge and might, we come
before your throne to worship You in Spirit and truth. We
pray that your Spirit of illumination would fall upon us
gathered here today so that we may hear your still small
voice, guiding us as we sojourn through this world. May we
feel Your presence with us here today. Come Spirit, fill our

Found in the Quietness – v5

Our comfort, our purpose
our calling in this life
is found in the quietness,
in the stillness,
in the presence of God

Setting time apart
in our room, on the mountain,
sitting with our Maker,
listening in the silence
for a word from our God

Our purpose, our center,
our service for the kingdom,
is found in the quietness
within the chaos
in our walk with God

simple prayer – v4

God doesn’t need any flowery language,
paragraphs, lofty drawn out words;
only simple prayer is needed.
We should be direct with God
we should be honest, open;
God already knows
the cries of our hearts.
Only simple prayer is needed
no flowery words required;
No affect, extra fluff,
none of these are needed
not needed at all.

A walk with John Wesley – v2

a walk with John Wesley
out of the cities, the pews,
out into the fields
to hear his message

a walk with John Wesley
a time of revival
back to our roots
going out into the fields

a walk with John Wesley
to learn what he valued
rekindling the spark
the flame that set him ablaze

a walk with John Wesley
ignited by the Spirit
fed by the Word
and time spent in prayer

so much blood – v3

so much blood
of the sacrifice, the Lamb
to protect the chosen;
blood on the door frames
the lintels, the sacrifice

the scourging
the crown of thorns
the angry nails;
the lintels of the cross
covered in blood

so much blood
of the Lamb
to protect the lost;
blood on the altar,
the horns, the sacrifice

poured out
for heaven
to give us new life;
so much blood spilled
in Christ’s sacrifice

more than my dog – v3

of few things I am certain
the love of God
and the love of my dog,
but there are limits
to the love Wyatt would give me;
there is a line
that I could not cross

don’t get me wrong
my dog loves me,
seemingly unconditionally,
but that is not completely accurate
the analogy limited
comparing a dog’s love
and the love of God

not “no matter what”
in the case of my dog;
my dog loves me,
but only so much;
he would run
if I hurt or abused him

God loves me, more,
He still loves me
even though I
denied Him, betrayed Him
and I ran away;
He still loves me
even when I
nailed Him to a tree.
