The enemies of the people
those who would enslave them
swallowed utterly
like a stone into mighty waters
buried under the sea
Ripples only,
the rest of them forgotten
Moving on, following God
guiding us, ever,
leading to the promised land

Celebrating the Completion
Celebrating the completion
the rebuilding of the wall
the people in their own towns
returned from exile
into their own land
coming together again
Standing in the morning
before the court of the Lord
raising hands in praise
all of them gathered
the young and the old
taught so all would understand

Not for the few
those who had studied
explained to each one there
all to understand
the richness of God’s love
embedded in the scripture here
All who had gathered
listening to God’s word
read from high on the platform
under the Jerusalem sun
before the Lord
all brought closer to God
Men, women, and children
the whole community
sharing in the teaching that day
hearing the words of the Lord
explained by the teachers
that all would truly understand
