May I Whisper Love

With my final breath
from my spirit, within my heart
may I whisper love,
ever new, ever growing;
May you be beside me,
hearing my longing
my prayer, my whisper,
our love, never to part.

May you be beside me,
come what may, what might;
May our love grow stronger
ever new, ever growing,
even in that night.

With my last breath
may I breathe, from my spirit,
“I Love You, my sweetheart”;
May these words grow stronger,
even in that night,
ever new, ever growing
facing that tomorrow
knowing it is bright.

at the same time – v2

joined before we met
words of promise
words of love
at the same time
in another place;
words lifted
across time
at the same moment
words to You oh God;
words to another
of love, of life,
yet connected already
words out of time

To live to love

to live, to love
to offer love to others
so must we be
to be a good neighbor.

A round shape

A round shape
A pearl on the line
Hope, holding on
Connected, entwined
Living organism
Life itself calling us
Calling to us
To move with the living
The growing, the movement
The changing in time
The moving, motion
Connected, entwined

Framed by the Arc

Not by the square
hard edges, immoveable
framed by the arc
rounded, smooth
turning, moving
the spinning of creation
of the sphere, connection
all of our together
moving as one
interconnected, family
in the circle of life

A Spectrum of Light

A spectrum of light
the circle of life
from end to end, unending
revolving in flight
round and round turning
the hard edges made smooth
not polar opposites
but places on a line
the thread of the web
woven into life
a tapestry growing
out of our peace and our strife
the tale of the nations
of the peoples near and far
the interconnectedness of nations
all colors and hues
all tongues and races
connected, turning
on this spinning top, this union,
this globe we call home

The Circle of the Square

The rounding of the edges
the fuzzing of the line
the shaping of the polygon
made by the potter’s hands
Rounding the rough edges
smoothing the sharp lines
moving in circular motion
somehow that’s sublime

When I think of Love

So softly
the heart beats
quiet in my chest
yet I cannot sleep

Sometimes I touch you
in the night
the soft of your skin
close by my side

When I think of love
I think of you
the smell of your hair
the soft of your perfume

That look in your eye
drawing me near
the warmth of embrace
all’s right in my world

The glint of the crystals

The mica in the granite
quartz, rosy or clear
jagged shards of beauty
drawing my eyes to come near

The rock of the field
formed in the stone wall
ancient and unmoving
yet yielding to the tree

The moving of the wall
ancient and unkept
covered in lichen
wondering where the years went

No longer holding in
an unused tangible border
left to the passerby
wandering through the forest

Under the edge of the cliff

The bluff giving way
to the endless rhythm of the tides
the winds blowing roughly
leaving the roots behind

The bank of the cliff face eroding
the sand/clay giving way
under the edge of the cliff
the rosa rugosa falling away

The Green Sky

The green sky over the water
rising from the depth
beyond the bright horizon
far off to the east

After a night on the dunes
the grasses of the guard towers
the bunkers below us
entombed in concrete

The brilliance of the dawning
the water like the sky
alive with brilliant colors
the dew by our side

Lost in our own thoughts
silent this morning
the laughter of the evening waning
under the green sky dawning

Within the wooden boxes

Off in the basement
beyond the cellar stairway
in the mist of the dust
the harbingers of time

Within the wooden boxes
kept in the corner
becoming one with the floor
the dirt wrapped around them

Ancient plates packed away
patterns of the past
the china of their parents
and those before them

In the wooden boxes
history of the families
the blossoms and the ribbon
under the dust the dirt

Kept for some future
stored in their basement
I wonder what has become of them
some in my china cabinet

On the Earthen Ground

Down into their basement one day
treasures there abound
a collection of life kept safe
on the bare earthen ground

China of family long gone from this earth
beautiful in boxes packed
some of this now part of my home
a piece of them carried on

So many things,
the stuff of our lives
handed down from age to age
kept because of the memory
the connection with them
but things alone nonetheless

Beauty

The question on “what is beauty”
my mind immediately
calling up the quote,
“beauty is in the eye of the beholder”,
as if there is no single concept
no single truth
the question, what is beauty

But the idea of public art
paid from the government’s coffers
homogenizing, making dull
the richness of art

Beauty, all around
wherever we are
color and light,
texture and shape
nature and man-made
all of it beautiful
something singular
even in the universal
whatever it is that catches
our own eye

The Shape of the Stone

Turning the soil
out in the garden
out beyond the yard

The shape of a stone
a perfect valentine
as if etched by
a craftsman’s hands
buried in the soil
so I may find the stone
and place it
in her prayer labyrinth

Sometimes I ponder
to think about these things
wondering how much
God is at play
offering grace
in so many ways
finding it every day
