#Dew on the #Tulips (5/15/2006, Claremont, NH)

Perfect droplets posed,
dew, rain, water,
cling to purple skin,
liquid flesh of the tulip…

Holding on, for moments more,
before the melting away,
May sunshine, evaporating,
waiting for my camera
posing, posturing…

Holding still for the shot
ready to complete the cycle,
from the cloud to the earth
and back again, an aerosol,
warming of morning…

Sealed by the Lord ' v2

The Lord was the one,
who saved him and his family
the animals, the birds, all creation
from wrath. from the flood,

from the cleansing
the cleaning of the earth
They went according to His will
into the unknown, into the Ark
and were sealed in by the Lord.

Pocahontas-ed – v2

I can hear them now,
ages four and six,
squabbling a bit, not settling
wrapped in Pocahontas
downstairs on the pull-out couch

Gramma and the two girls
sheets, comforter, pillow cases too
Indian princess covering ours
a sleepover in the living room

fitfully quieting for the night
past her bedtime, approaching theirs
on the weekend, Saturday,
pushing for more time
before slumber wins out

Focused on My Family – v3

A night out, Saturday, cut short
needing to go back home
to put them to bed,
to give her rest
a time to mend and heal

no regrets of the change
the redirection homeward
where we needed to be
resting when we needed to
no regrets at all

In Secret They Were Sent - v2

Magi, astrologers, wise men.
they were the outsiders, the unclean foreigners;
but Herod needed spies to find the baby
to search out the King, to find his rival
so he could pinpoint his strike, his attack,
to cut off the prophesy, to deny God.

Herod met with the foreigners
the astrologers, the wise men
the outsiders, to be his unwitting agents;
but God had other plans
Plans for homage and for safety
for glory and for the future.

In secret they were sent
by Herod to find the Christ-child
unwitting agents, warned
to go another way,
to leave Christ in secret
to continue on home.

The Island (in my mind) – v2

There is a place where only I can go
A space of solitary quietude
a singular solitude
where my thoughts can roam

Ponder and probe,
Mull and meander down paths
only I would follow
Away from the noise around me

Finding a centering, a grounding
in the island of my mind
in this place of solitude
a peace I call my own.

Smiles – v2

Smiles on our lips,
On our cheeks,
In our eyes and in our hearts
Even in parting
Last with me
Linger, remain;
Whispering, murmuring
I love you

Worthless Grain – v5

Our barns, full, bursting
our harvest not shared;
Gathered to the edges
like the rich man’s treasure.

Grain stored for a lifetime
no cares, yet not enough;
Wanting more, bigger barns,
for more stockpiled, gathered in.

All of it is worthless, the grain, the harvest,
his possessions, all he had stored up;
It is worthless before God,
come for an accounting of his days.

Where was his heart, his charity,
the treasures that he kept;
Storing up grain, for himself,
useless on that Judgment Day.

A prophet answering
the direct call to action
by the Lord God Jehovah
to bring truth to the people.
Foretelling a trial they must face
to be God’s voice.
“Whom shall I send?”

Circle of Life (Web) – edited – v2

We are connected
one another, every moment,
every place, every cell,
Every movement, every utterance
around the world.

Each action, reverberates
echoes, across time,
through space, each instant
splits, echoes back
in millions of waves;
From different points
on the expanding sphere
encircling the globe.

Each speck, each tiny spot,
each one of us, infinitesimal
members clinging to the web;
Hanging on forever, the spinning top,
hanging on for dear life.

Pair – v4

Craning to glimpse
Around the bend,
Behind the trees,
Hiding in the fog.

A pair of swans,
Finding solitude,
Beside one another
In open water.

Alone together
Away from the bustle,
The noise, the commotion,
Of the road.

Little John – v2

He's there, Little John
to the other's Robin Hood;
Buds enjoying the vibe
the groove, the mood.

The stalwart second
to Marian's call
and Robin's schemes;
Drumming and strumming,
Tall tales of the wood.

We Walk in Faith – v3

A momentary blip,
a bump on the road of life
hit us again today, as it has
for a few weeks.

A scare in our lives
prayed over, worried over
brought us together
family of blood,
of affinity, of kinship,
our family of faith.

Wrapping arms around us
praying for us
for the doctor’s skill
the sureness of his hand
the guiding hand of God
in the testing to come.

The results we wait for
the healing of the body
and the balm of the soul
feeling the presence of God.

The people put in our path
wanting to help
to care for her
support her
comfort her
and me.

A Bursting of Green – v3

Long dormant carpet, of grey, of brown
parched and pending
waiting in slumber
poised for an awakening

Showers and warming
a bursting of green
in the yard, the trees, my world

A different day, dawning,
from a single spring shower,
falling on a world so ready
for the greening of Spring.

Old Friends – 1 – v2

They meet after months and yet
The time melts away, forgotten,
And they are back in the swing

Ready to banter and bait
To play off one against the other
Of easy laughter and witty repartee

Easy smiles and quick jabs
To while away the hours
And drink in life again

As they do, as old friends do
With relish and a tall tale or two
Happy for the time they share
