Nouns Verbs and Adjectives – v4

We added words, one by one
onto the blackboard;
in front of the classroom
Little arms raised in the air
sometimes too excited to wait.
Words blurted out,
urgent, important words

They were nouns, verbs, and adjectives
words of a walk in the woods;
All are worthy, all valid,
at least for him, for her,
the ones who spoke them out loud.

String together, communally
amid laughter, easy, fun
together writing a poem
before they wrote their own
with their own words;
Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives
and Adverbs, daringly!

Beneficial – v6

God’s offer of grace
releasing us from the law.

All permissible, allowed
by our choice, our will;
but not all is beneficial
for the raising up of the body
for the people of Christ.

The flock of the shepherd
to prepare for paradise.

To reassure us of His love – v3

The whispers of the Spirit
God calling to us
our spirits stirring;
Gathering together
the sheep of His flock.

Bearing witness
to the Lord’s power
singing to the heavens;
Joyfully being filled
that we may be poured out.

To reassure us of His love
Call to Worship
God calls us together as his children
to reassure us of his love, to encourage
our care for each other, to remind us
of our responsibilities, and to send us out
as people who bear his name,
Come, let us worship him!

kindling a friendship – v2

finding others,
our friendships growing,
when we had been apart
choosing sides
because od an old dispute
kindling a friendship
with the others
making up for lost time
when we were in the middle
when we were forced to pick sides.

Jesus climbed the altar – v3

this act of submission
this manifest moment of grace
more than the cup, His prayer,
in the moment of Gethsemane;
beyond the lash, the mocking,
the horrible scourging
the beating He took for us.

Jesus the lamb,
the Son of the Father,
became the sacrifice;
God, like Abraham,
climbing the mountain;
Jesus climbed the altar,
dying as a sacrifice
to set us free from sin.

The unused path

the bramble overflowing,
undergrowth abloom
but a hint of a path,
just an impression really.
One long abandoned
left to grow fallow
forgotten, up the bank
out into the wood.
Like that unknown journey
maybe a hidden rock wall
the unused path before me
calling me to walk.

the unused path into the wood
calling, beckoning me onward
to move from my comfort
out into the unknown.
The whisper of the wind
a shiver at my back,
yet a call echoing within me
to turn and not look back.
Venturing forth, yet uncertain,
not knowing yet the way
needing the Spirit to guide me
each and every day.

on this day

on this day, love,
our Master was a servant
washing our feet
on this day Christ broke bread
His body for us
on this day He allowed
the betrayer to run away
on this day, this night
Christ drank of the cup
submitting His life to God’s will
accepting our cross.
