Their long
arms are ever reaching outward, upward,
their
supple hands are reaching out to God...,
Their long
arms unencumbered by the threat of snow, of winter,
They are
reaching upward, striving, yearning,
for the
sun, for meaning, for the closeness of God.
Our
arms, like the branches, are raised skyward,
to
heaven, to the home of God…,
We seek
connection, meaning, our own purpose,
but we
strive to praise God in the storm, the sunlight,
we
forever are yearning, with long arms reaching out to God.

I took
a picture this morning of the southern pine trees
on Whisper
Creek Boulevard
here in
our complex;
I was
brought back to a conversation in 2004ish with
Rev. Orin
Watson at Wesley United Methodist Church,
In which
I talked about my writing poetry,
after
one of the bible studies he had lead.
He
commented that, “anyone can write a poem about a tree”;
but
that as a Christian poet, I should seek to convey something
about God
in the poem…,
So here
you go Rev. Watson…
