Christ did not want to become rooted
not staying in one place
bound to one people
Christ preached widely
moving about
evangelizing throughout

Power over the voices
Christ displaying power
power over the voices
those which would destroy
that would attack his holy name
We have a protector

walking with the first disciples
still close to the waters
not far from the seas
Christ healing a man
possessed by demons
power over the demons

Not Stopping Judas
What it means to love
to love as Christ loves us
not stopping Judas
the betrayer into the night
Loving others who don’t deserve this
who have actively done you wrong
loving them unconditionally
though they wish you harm

Letting Judas Betray Him
Christ could have stopped him
denying the betrayer exit
yet loving us enough
Letting Judas betray him
Christ came for this purpose
to fulfill the law, the prophets
come to save his people
to become the sacrifice
This is what he means
to love as he loves us
to give ourselves
to those who are unworthy
Christ let Judas go
even with Satan within him
out into the night
to bring the leaders to him
Christ did not hold back
he did not deny the plan, fulfillment
we are to love as he loved
this is his new commandment.

As He Loves
Not to merely love one another
as we love ourselves
to put on the fabric, garment
to put on the love of God
To love as he loves
spoken on the night of his betrayal
letting the betrayer leave
Satan into the night
Christ saying something important
why this was a new commandment
to love not just as we would love
but to love as God loves us

Loving us enough to let us kill him
Maybe if we can put the pieces together
if we can face our sin
what Christ meant to love one another
our neighbors as ourselves
to love as he loved us
to let the betrayer go
knowing what was to come
loving God so
Loving us enough to let us kill him
atoning for all of our sin
becoming the lamb, submissive
climbing the cross for us
taking on our stain
the bile of our wickedness
drinking of that cup
loving us that much

Why is this a new command
Christ in the upper room
after Satan left
asking them to love
a fateful new command
Why is this a new command
the law says to love
to love our sovereign God
our neighbors as ourselves
Context what this is about
from whom the command spoken
the Son of God, the Lamb
on the night of his betrayal

After Satan had left them
The eleven remaining
after Satan had left them
sent into the darkness by Jesus
faithful to God’s plan
How we are to love
sacrificially, like Jesus
loving our neighbors completely
giving up our lives
Not that we should love
this was the ancient law
how we are to love
the covenant of blood.

How we should love
Not that we should love
this was no new commandment
ancient words, the love
handed down by Moses
What was new, important
making this a new commandment
to love our neighbors as ourselves
to love them all like Jesus

As I have loved you - 2
How we are to love
not that we should love
the ancient words, written down
the law, unchanging
A new command to us
not that we should love
but how we are to love
as Christ loved us

Gloried because he let Judas go
Christ glorified
the Father with him
because he let Judas go
to fulfill his purpose
the journey, the cross
beginning with the betrayal
the betrayer lost
but we are raised with Jesus
because he let Judas go
leaving the upper room
to the leaders, to betray him
on that Passover eve.

Glorified, according to God’s plan
Christ was glorified
the Father in Him
life changing forever
faithful to God’s plan
submitting to the moment
casting the devil out
to fulfill God’s holy purpose
the betrayal that night
the die cast, broken
the world to be put to right.

What would the others have done
Perhaps the ambiguity helpful
for God’s holy purpose
that the others did not know the betrayer
until Christ gave him the morsel
What would the others have done
if they were aware it was Judas
how would they have reacted
to the betrayer walking beside them

Was it through tears of sadness
Speaking to Judas, Satan within him
the Messiah at that moment
casting the betrayer out
yet not sending him away
with a curse, malevolent,
merely saying go if you must,
but go, do this quickly.
Was it through tears of sadness
was there a moment of trepidation
did Christ send him out into the night
fearing what would come
or was he confident, purposeful
glad the die was cast
for God’s purpose to be revealed.

What did Christ’s voice sound like
In the words spoken to Judas
sending him into the night
was there joy, resignation
was there relief at the coming
that the time finally was now
was there sadness in heaven
that the Devil had won somehow

only a willing heart
The inclusion of Judas
with them in the upper room
the language of the Savior
in calling them the chosen
all twelve of them chosen
by the Christ to walk with him
yet one of them to betray him
to give in to the devil
to turn his back on Christ
only a willing heart
to redeem us from the dust
that is why he could claim them chosen
when one of them was lost.

Christ did not shun Judas
What does this say about God
about his Son, Jesus,
what does it say about love
that Christ did not shun Judas
Christ, fully human,
yet totally divine,
knew before he was born
that Judas would betray him
Speaking of this publicly,
before the upper room
yet not naming the betrayer
letting the steps unfold
Christ did not shun Judas
allowing him free will
though he had chosen him
given the right to kill

allowing him free will
though he had chosen him
given the right to kill

Jesus didn’t send him away
Foreshadowing the upper room
when other disciples bled away
Jesus didn’t send him away
allowing the betrayer to stay
Christ spoke of the one
that one of them would betray him
yet he didn’t send him away
he kept Judas close beside him

Satan entered him
Satan entered Judas
acknowledging betrayal
accepting the sacrifice, the bread
given to him by Jesus
Satan entered Judas
cast out by Jesus
go, do quickly,
go and do what you must

Many disciples left Jesus
An earlier moment in scripture
in the telling of betrayal
Christ already knew
speaking about the betrayer.
Many disciples left Jesus
many bled away
the twelve remaining, including
the one who would betray him this day

Was there a hush in heaven
As the Devil/Judas left them
closing the door behind them
the eleven only with Jesus
in the upper room
The events soon upon them
in moments before he began speaking
was there a hush in heaven
was the a gasp upon the heights

Acted out in silence
Christ gave him the morsel
and Satan entered Judas
no words were exchanged
in the midst of transformation
Only Christ spoke then,
“what you must do, do quickly”,
Satan/Judas left immediately
all this acted out in silence.

Was Christ speaking to Judas
Once Judas had eaten
taking the bread Christ offered
is this the bread
the other gospels speak of
Was Christ speaking to Judas
the one who had followed
one of the twelve he had chosen
his disciples in this journey
Could he reach him
after the Devil entered
was this truly Judas
who went into the night
Christ said to go,
to go quickly if you must
was he speaking to Judas
or did he send the Devil out

Was Christ speaking to the Devil
When the words were spoken
what you must do, do quickly
was Christ speaking to Judas
or was he speaking to the devil
Knowing what he knew
how Judas had seen the leaders
how money have been exchanged
for Judas to betray him
As Christ gave him the morsel
the bit of the bread
the Devil entered Judas
prepared to do his work
Christ said to go,
to go quickly into the night
to enter the darkness quickly
to do what he must do
But was then speaking
to his disciple, to Judas
or was the Son speaking
to the Devil, fallen angel,
to the prince of darkness

The die was then cast
That night in the upper room
Christ time now come
knowing the betrayer’s heart
the one who was chosen
The die was then cast
Christ’s words the quickening
the devil entering into him
going to the street
Christ called the others
a new commandment, to love others
not as the ancient words
but as He loves us
Letting Judas go out
sending him to go quickly
all to show us love
to be the lamb, the sacrifice
Such was the love he gave us
what he called us to share
to love our neighbor richly
as Christ did for us that night

From those Christ had chosen
From one of you I have chosen
yet not chosen by God
one of you will betray me
the Son, the Lamb of God
There in the upper room
hard words that Holy Thursday
the last supper eaten
the betrayer leaving their midst
Go, do quickly, what you must do
the die cast, the day begun
the day Christ would die.

Was there silence in the upper room
Two moments of amazement
words of Jesus
one of them would betray him
and go quickly, what you must do
spoken to Judas
was there silence in the upper room
did the earth shift its axis

A hush in the upper room
A silence in the room
gathered for the Passover feast
the words of Jesus
hanging like a weigh
one of them to betray him
yet what did that mean
how could any of us who love him
do anything to hurt our Lord.

One of you will betray me
Those who I have lived with
who I have walked with on this journey
with me by the seaside
leaving their lives behind
One of you will betray me
I know the appointed one
one of you around this table
to betray the Chosen One.

He foreknew who would betray
The gospels, in retrospect,
showing what Christ foreknew
the Savior, the Messiah
he knew who would betray him
he spoke of this openly
He did not stop the traitor
letting Judas go his own way
Appointed for a purpose
for that purpose faithful
Christ foreknew who would betray him
and he didn’t stand in the way

Never told Judas not to betray
Christ could have stopped this
he knew what was to come
he never told them
who was the betrayer, the one
Christ never told Judas
he never said not to betray him
he could silence the demons
had no words of silence that day

I know those I have chosen
Christ’s words to them
immediately before betrayal
words echoing earlier words
when others would leave him
I know those I have chosen
numbered by God
knowing too the betrayer
those who would run away
Christ speaking to us
his children some day

This Blog, Poetry Where You Live, is 8 years old
Today Poetry Where You Live, www.raymondafoss.blogspot.com is 8 years old. I had written less than 300 poems then. I now am up to 15,370. Thank you God for the words you have blessed me with to share.
As I pray going into bible study time each day, “Lord, please be with me as I spend this time in your Word. I pray that you would give me a message for my heart. And, Lord, if it be your will, please share with me a message for the world.”
And thank you to all who have commented on these poems over the last eight years.
Let me be emptied, let me be filled. As you give me, so should I give.

do it quickly
Jesus exposed,
revealed the betrayer
sending Judas,
from their midst
no more charade
the mask taken away
go now if you must
but do it quickly

What you must do
Christ knowing, Judas knew
aware of his treason
that he would betray
were the coins heavy
hanging from his waistband
did he know the chaos
he would release
Christ let him go,
words of acceptance
what you must do,
not weighed with judgment
resignation, affirming
go now quickly
let it be so.

What you must do, do it quickly
Jesus’ words, spoken to Judas
after awareness, his heart exposed
what you must do, do it quickly
Christ loving us enough
to left Judas go
This moment, as in the garden
the prayers lifted up to God
submission, acceptance
willingly going
Christ choosing
the servant’s way.

look around with eyes open
Wonder in creation
the power of God’s love
look around with eyes open
our Father, our God
with us each day
all of our lives
his hand still guiding
the universe, creation
moving in time.

I fail to thank God for my daily provision
If I am truly honest
aware of myself
failing to acknowledge
the presence of God
his hand upon my living
grace on my life
I fail to thank God

the greatest miracles around us – v2
Creation
(the greatest miracles around us)
not by human hands
but the mind of God
shaped, conjured from nothing
set all in motion, precision
in balance sublime
Creation
the waters, the dome,
the sky above our living
ground, dry land
the boundaries of each portion
God showing us
his love for us in creation
in the order of the universe
the invisible laws
all by the hand of God
beautiful are his works,
miracles in each moment.

the glory of God’s might in creation
We sing, too rarely
we down not rise in wonder
singing our praise
your power, your glory
the glory of God’s might
in creation, in wonder
the beauty of your works
your loving hand to form us
all that there is in life
from the beating of the heart
the sky, the lands, the waters
all by your hand, oh God.

singing our praise
your power, your glory
the glory of God’s might
in creation, in wonder
the beauty of your works
your loving hand to form us
all that there is in life
from the beating of the heart
the sky, the lands, the waters
all by your hand, oh God.

the beauty of your wonderful work
I apologize, my God
for failing to praise you
so much I cannot comprehend
yet your work all around me
the beauty of your wonderful work
the movement of creation
all that ever was, what is

God delights in those who fear
The Lord delights
in those who fear him
who are mindful of

who put their hope

Having trust in our blindness
We can count God
leading us in this journey
In this world of darkness
walking about in blindness
yet sure of your protection
having trust in our blindness
able to rely on God
God here with us
Guiding us as we journey
on our path, set before us
illuminating our steps, our way
even in our blindness
protecting us in holiness
lifting us on wings like eagles.

a glorious destination
The promise for the victors
those who have run the race
faithful to God’s calling
not turning right or left
A glorious destination
eternity with God
focused on his teaching
his love for one and all
We must not give in
accepting when we are weary
lifting up our feet
following the Master’s calling
Faithful to the end
trusting in God’s promise
a glorious destination
for all of our tomorrows.

Through the darkness
On the journey, focused
through the darkness
when we wander
when we are pulled away
lost in our own selves
Through the darkness
on the journey
God’s holy presence
a light to guide our way
to illuminate our path
to guide our stumbling feet.

We will have renewed strength
God sees us struggling
he is watching our feet
are we walking on the path
or are we straying in the street
We will have renewed strength
we can soar on eagle’s wings
God will lift us up
he will protect us when we are weary

Those who hope in the Lord
The promise of strength, of presence
God’s promise of love
those who hope in the Lord
cleaving to his promise
to raise, to lift them up
of whatever age,
as even youth grow tired
hope in the Lord
the source of all that is
hope in the Lord
to soar on eagles’ wings.

Like a skin over the foundation – v2
Living fabric of heaven
like a new skin of a drum
pulled into position, taut
by the loving hand of God
Like a skin over the foundation
visible arc of the dome
fastened into position
ringing out God’s love
Shimmering sound
brilliant living colors, stars,
like jewels beyond number
yet God knows each name
Stretched fabric of the cosmos
galaxies, quasars,
all of the heavenly host
set in motion by God.

He stretched the heavens like a canopy – v2
Over the foundations of the living earth
the arc of the dome, the sky, the stillness
God stretched the heavens
living tissue, giving to his hand
like a canopy, with bright colors
shades, and depth, without end
shimmering light, his presence
galaxies, stars beyond number
yet he knows, can name,
each and every one.

Like a tent stretched over the dome – v3
A living canvas, the heavens
The azure sky, the blackness
space, the fabric,
held by the hand of God
stretched like a skin,
a drum face, new, living tissue,
pulled into alignment
tested for its sound, resonance
Like a tent stretched over the dome
over the firm foundations
brightly painted, stitched together
an arc of the heavens
pure wonder of creation
all of the world, as it should be
placed in position, set in motion
by the word of the creator
created, formed, placed
by the hand of the potter
