Glory left the Temple – v2

rejected by the priests
leaders of the people
persecuted for the truth
the Glory of God, Jesus,
left the holy Temple
Christ exiting the city
cloistered on the Mount of Olives
dark clouds gathering in
shrouding David’s city
in the darkness of the cross

triumphant in heaven

our despair turned to singing
the darkness abated
triumphant in heaven
the lamb upon the throne
praise and thanksgiving
God has redeemed his children
holy is the lamb
seated now in Glory

Worthy is the Lamb

worthy is the Lamb
seated on the throne of power
able to break the seals
to read the final judgment

worthy is the Lamb
made whole in his glory
redeemed by his sacrifice
all praise to the One
who died and rose for us

dripping with blood – v2

silence filled the room
gravity overwhelming
the servant-Christ, the Lamb
breaking his own body
A part of his flesh, the bread
dripping with his blood
given into my hands
before I went to betray him
He said to do quickly
what I planned to do
but I sat there for a moment
his body in my hands

staring into my soul

His eyes cutting into me
the words swirling around my mind
knowing the priests, the leaders
were already waiting for me
The words of sacrifice
a new covenant with God
I could still feel his hands touching me
as he humbly washed my feet
Now he leaned toward me
offering me the bread
dipped in his blood, sacrifice
cutting into my very life
His body, his blood
the fresh bread and wine
looking down into my hands
staring into my soul

his sacrifice in my hands

his words a bitter drug
my servant, my Master
he had washed my feet
he had spoken new words

now he spoke of betrayal
he already knew
passing the bread to me
his eyes burning my soul

his sacrifice in my hands
his body, his blood
wine dripping on my fingers
as I ran out into the night

his body in my hand

the pain in his eyes
giving me the morsel
the bit of bread dripping
with his sacrifice, his blood

he didn’t release it at first
his eyes piercing my soul
I clumsily choked it down
and bolted for the door

dripping on his hands

God’s sacrifice,
dripping on his hands
in the upper room
on that fateful night
the betrayer and the Lamb

The love of God pouring out
the morsel of bread
a piece of God’s body
sitting in his hands
the room filling with dread

Go, do this now,
what you have planned
the urgent exchange
in the upper room between
the betrayer and the Lamb

The Morsel of Bread – v6

Christ at the table with them
changing the ancient words of the Passover
speaking new words of sacrifice, of covenant
God making himself a sacrifice
to be given to redeem us
breaking his body
in the breaking of the bread
handing a piece to him
the one who would betray him

What must he have felt,
sharing in the meal, the offering,
the invocation, the intoning of the words
these words of the teacher,
his master, Rabbi
changing the ancient words
of remembrance, of protection
saying something entirely new,
a new covenant, for us

the morsel of bread dipped,
shared directly from his hands
his words to go, to do
that which is planned quickly
what must he have thought,
in that moment of gifting, of sacrifice
the doubt, the confusion,
steps already set in motion
unable to return, to pull back
the wheels of time turning
his body, his blood
God’s sacrifice,
dripping on his hands

Clothe me with joy – v2

clothe me with joy
remove my sackcloth
my ashes, the darkness
raise me from the dust

Clothe me with joy
a new heart, with purpose
send me into the world
I will sing your praises

I cry out for mercy
for your love, your protection
I will sing your praises
my rock, my foundation

negotiating with the Beast

negotiating with the Beast
now that the box has been opened
the cloak of the Beast
now part of our body
as if merged with us
together one creature
but what if we try
to change the Beast, its direction
to tame its excesses
to make something noble
out of the pure instinct
the baser stuff loosed
set into motion
ready to take control
but we add fetters
nothing that the Beast wants
only to destroy
