all that we have accomplished you have done for us – v2

Nothing by my own hand
I am but the glove
You are the one who lifted me up
You who fills my cup

All that I am
all that I will ever be
all the good I have done
only because of Thee

Lord I bow down
humbly before You
all that we have accomplished
You have done for us

“I have a glove here in my hand.  The glove cannot do anything by itself, but when my hand is in it, it can do many things.  True, it is not the glove, but my hand in the glove that acts.  We are gloves.  It is the Holy Spirit in us who is the hand, who does the job.  We have to make room for the hand so that every finger is filled.”

Planting Seeds – v2

Each poem, each bit of verse
given to me, knitted together
each poem posted, to the world
to the ether, the wind
a seed planted into the ephemeral soil
the rich soil of cyberspace
cast into the wind, hoping to find
the one heart where it was supposed to land
one heart crying out for an answer
for hope in the wilderness of modern life
May the words I send out be a blessing
a seed planted, watered, in the good soil
to be nurtured by another,
for a bountiful harvest, to God’s glory

joy within my clay – v2

hope within my dust
joy within my clay
God here with us
Christ up above

love with my cells
every fiber of my body
God changed my life
raised from the dust

joy in my heart
pouring out in love

praying the impossible – v3

somehow knowing God’s power
better than we do
those sophisticated
those of this world

more sure of God’s divinity
of God’s infinite power
as a child, unjaded
not limited by life, this world

praying the impossible
sure God can do this
whatever is placed on their hearts
raised up to our God

something of Jesus
coming to God as children
sure God can do this
whatever is placed on our heart

our prayer richer
this message of Jesus
as a child, not changed yet,
by this world, this life

Praise the Lord, O my soul – v2

For your boundless love
for your mindfulness of me
though I am formed of dust
my life a brief whisper,
Praise the Lord, O my soul
joy filling my heart
for my Creator knows me

For your endless grace
holding your anger
when I sin, falter
forgiving my iniquities
not repaying me in equal measure,
Praise the Lord, O my soul
joy filling my heart
for my God saves me

For the beauty of creation,
the majesty of your courts
seated on your throne forever
looking down from heaven
watching over your good earth,
Praise the Lord, O my soul
joy filling my heart
for our God is eternal

many are the faithful
barely mentioned in history
not seeking recognition
just giving to God

servants, faithful
answering God’s call
going, doing
out in the world

outside the limelight

for the glory of God

Fresh Oil – v2

Like fresh oil for our lamps
fresh oil for the journey
so are the words of faith shared
in the community, together
in support of one another
in the light we can shine on the world
into the world, as there is need

to keep our lamps lit, ourselves ready
to answer the call of God,
the ministry of our Savior
and the stirrings of the Holy Spirit
deep within us, burning,
to care for those in need
to go and make disciples

In that story

so easy to see ourselves
to place ourselves
in that story
so easily discouraged
returning to our old lives
transformed, changed
in epiphany moments
in wondrous days
when we felt Christ with us
but in darkness going home
in that story
Christ comes beside us
walking with us on the road
sharing the ancient story
how he was to come
the prophecies fulfilled
in the life of Jesus
something we hold on to
when he is not right with us
when we are confused
walking on the journey
forgetting too quickly
he is with always
