surrounding the #lake, the #woodlands

the swamp if we are honest
Water becoming wood
slack black water
thick with peat, moss,

the runoff of beavers
their efforts to tame
to control the landscape

gathering the water to them
making the lake a grave
Killing this generation
feeding the cycle
an ancient refrain...

#leftover #chowder

Gathering the stones, ingredients,
the potatoes, onions, the butter,
adding the milk, the cream,
simmering on the stove.

Hard tack bread, a baguette,
sliced made ready,
hot coffee of the morning
thick with hope, with chicory.

Adding fish, clams, spices,
a bouquet, leftover chowder,
gathered from the restaurants
flavors of the Vineyard.
