At the Appointed Time – v4

At the appointed time,

the time that God had ordained

Even the Son was predestined

for the steps on this path.

So at that appointed time

before the betrayal, Gethsemane,

the bread and the cup were shared

His words transforming

the one meal forever.

The blood, the lamb, this bread

all now of the new covenant

by His sacrifice and saving;

We are given new life.

Into the Icy Sea – v4

We all took tentative, cautious

careful steps into the icy sea -

cold, cold, Maine salt water.

Unsure of the wisdom

of our temporary sojourn

walking out from shore;

Tide rising, coming in,

bringing numbing cold,

and a soup of baby jellyfish.

At least the cold

took their sting out.

Jellyfish Toss – v4

It must have been

the freezing cold waters

the newness of the needles

not feeling their texture

the sting of their poison.

“Please, oh please

catch it (and not wear it)”,

So were the thoughts

rushing through my mind

as I played

jellyfish toss

within the circle

this faithful congregation

of newfound friends,

at the edge of the sea.

Dripping goo and

stinging cells,

who knew the risks;

but we were definitely

careful, oh so careful.

“Toss it gently, oh please.”

Growing Edges – v3

Our mission, our trip, our sharing

all part of the growing edges

the learning of new skills, new gifts,

of the missionaries, gaining strength,

new skills, stretching muscles not used before

gaining skills, confidence, sharing, growing

being ready for more service, more work

through the growing edges, the pushing,

the trusting, our faith, together

In Mission – v4

In Mission, we share, we offer hope

to the people of that simple place

people of that land, that ground

with roots deep in that rough scrabble

barely eeking out life on that land,

the sea, the open ocean before them

the blueberry fields, the forest behind them

out on the edge of our land.

We went there in mission

hoping to serve them

to make their lives just a bit easier

in that place called home,

but they shared with us

other rich lessons;

we drew closer to God

in the circle together.
