A gifted purse – v2

I watched her gathering her change,
from a treasured gifted purse,
gilded, beautiful, a keepsake,
in texture, in gold and blues.
 
A representation of Mary, of Jesus,
the Madonna and child,
Eastern Orthodox iconography,
a talisman, tangible, a memory,
of that singular moment in time.
 
God come from heaven,
born to Mary, this Jesus,
fully God, fully man, precious,
held in the arms of Mary, His mother,
the nativity, His whole life…

Gathering her payment, her change,

alone on Golgotha - v2

alone on Golgotha – v2
 
A mother's pain, her anguish 
for those six hours
in some ways, she was
almost more alone than Jesus.
 
She couldn’t understand
all of the heavenly plans,
she was alone on Golgotha
standing at His cross.
 
In her pain in her sorrow
a sword piercing her soul
for her, her son dying,
become our sacrifice.

that lonely six hours – v6

knowing no sleep that night

for Mary, for her son Jesus,

that long night become morning

from the garden to Calvary

the day excruciating, torment,

leading to the death of our Savior

that lonely six hours

her vigil of His cross

nothing she could do

but to stand there and watch

her baby become the martyr

the sin sacrifice for us

The Savior of Advent – v2

The One that we wait for

the Savior of Advent

the babe that lay in the manger

was the man who climbed the cross.

the Savior of Advent

became our sacrifice;

He suffered, He died

to give us life.

The cross and the manger

are intertwined;

the blood of the Savior

restored our lives

God lifts up the lowly – v5

God blesses us all

with God’s gift of salvation,

a free gift to all;

but God lifts up the lowly.

God brings down the mighty

those who are too sure of their power.

God loves the humble, the willing,

those who are giving, servants.

God blesses us all;

but God lifts up the lowly

those who the world thinks of

as lesser than themselves.
