her agony on Golgotha

standing there as a mother
at the foot of Jesus’ cross
not being divine
watching her child
the son she raised from a baby
climbing the rugged cross
choosing to be the sacrifice
to save us from the lost
her agony on Golgotha
alone within her thoughts
did she think of the Magi
and the strange gifts they brought
such strange gifts for a baby
but now the prophecy
the words of Simeon
echoing in her ears
