this question of Mary
what she must have been
thinking
standing, trembling,
before Gabriel, an angel of
God.
“How could I choose any
other path?”,
anything other than
submission,
than praise, than worship of
God;
How could I choose any other
answer
than giving my life over
for the glory of God.
A child of David, herself,
of the royal line, the promise,
choosing to raise a Son,
to save her people.
Choosing the only path
she saw for herself;
Submitting her life,
singing the Magnificat.
