an oasis of light – v3

water in the desert
a pearl in the oyster
an oasis of light
a rock in the storms
how to see the kingdom
part of heaven
here on the earth
a future unfolding
when love fills the vacuum
giving us hope, freedom
new birth in the kingdom
heaven on earth.

Words I Needed to Hear – v3

The Lord placed words in my heart
so often, each morning,
this morning in devotion, words
to sustain me, to guide me,
to lift me from the desert
the wilderness I wander
in the choices I have to make, in
leading the life He has laid out
for me, here, now, already written
Help me Lord, to take comfort
in Your words, see the path
You have laid out for me
and take it where it leads
out into Your world.

Like a Broken Vessel – v2

All the whole world
living in this place, in sin
like a broken pot upon the wheel
misshapen, deformed
needing to be healed
needing the potter’s hand

God’s promise
to redeem, to remake
our brokenness
changing our whole lives
when we repent
when we turn to Him

broken for my sin – v2

looking down at my hands
the blood-stained bread
the brokenness of Christ
ripped apart, broken on the cross
held there with the nails
the spikes of my rebellion
my disobedience;
my blood poured out,
his body broken for my sin

I am broken in this life
separated from God
healed by the blood of Christ
poured at the cross

Risen, in the Present Tense – v2

Words, of our faith,
the mystery of faith
bound into our lives, our hearts,
seared into our memory
heard so many times,
“Christ has died,
Christ is risen,
Christ will come again”
A statement of loss and
a covenant of a future yet to come
bound by the WONDROUS MIDDLE,
the affirmation of something
more than mere reporting
witnessed, certain, unbelief but TRUE

We are not told that Christ rose,
as the ancient creed holds,
No, this is a bold statement of life
of continuing resurrection, living today
of our promise, of the prophecy,
in the scripture of living joint heirs,
as fellow disciples, apostles, fishermen with them,
as living brothers and sisters with Christ
in the present moment. He is alive! He IS risen
living now, as surely as the moments
He walked this earth,
in human form. He is living now,
and He is our brother,
not our long, far off distant relative.

He is our living brother, now, in the present
We are His companions, His disciples
Just as much as the first twelve,
who shared the bread, the wine
We are His contemporaries, their peers
a big, rambunctious living family
Heirs in the first degree
Feeling the presently risen Christ
walking that Emmaus Road,
the journey of our lives
after the rising on Easter
Living with a Christ in the present tense

HE IS RISEN; Christ IS risen indeed!

a gaping hole – v2

Christ left His throne
a gaping hole in paradise
for thirty-three years
an eternity, it would seem,
while he walked the earth

part of God missing
from a seat in Glory
become mortal man
here on earth with us
emptied of power

in human flesh
walking with us fully human
God incarnate
loved poured down from heaven
a gaping hole above

filled when Christ ascended
returning in love
seated beside the Father
until He returns
in victory, in Glory

the way we suffer

suffering to come
the human condition
in this life, this journey
our walk upon the earth

our joys, our struggles
the way we suffer what matters
only faith sustains us
sure of the Word
the protection of God

Christ’s promise
the Holy Spirit with us
there in our joys
and our sorrows in life

my face like flint – v2

my face like flint
hardened on the mountain
the Spirit fired
my very soul

I know my purpose
this moment in time
the wheels set in motion
part of God’s plan

my face like flint
nothing can harm me
the spit, the nails
they cannot touch me
I belong to God
