slowing out furtive steps
our stumbling in the
world
putting ourselves, our
minds
back in that place and
time
walking in the footsteps
of Jesus
hearing, as the first
disciples,
when Jesus said, “come,
follow me”,
leaving our nets, our
lives
leaving all we had ever
known
there at the shoreline
seeing him cure the sick
when he drove out the
demons
watching the miracles
walking in the footsteps
of Jesus
even as He fed the five
thousand
seeking to walk with them
to walk in the footsteps
of Jesus
as Peter, as Paul had
done
His life, His ministry
for us
for we are Christ’s
chosen people
turning from our present
ways
from the call of this
broken world
so that we may walk in
the footsteps of Jesus
faithful to His call to
us, to the first disciples,
“Come, follow me.” Amen.
