Our planet is warming
ground burning, smoldering;
clouds of dust moving
with nothing to stop them
‘cross the dry landscape.
too easy to just write
what you see on the surface;
cool mist rising from
the water, warming,
in early-morning light...
Topsoil erosion
a scar growing, spreading,
behind a green of summer;
our legacy of neglect
bearing awful fruits.
No sign of animals
on a wind-swept plain;
smoke moving, swirling
moving in waves
across the dry earth.
