The fallen go into battle with them
under their body armor
a vyshyvanka, a prayer...
They are protected by their fallen comrades...
 
Every thread is hand-dyed,
dipped in the defender’s blood...
Unwound from the spool, woven,
creating a protective shield...
 
Each shirt, invisible, made of pure linen,
the prayer of this people...
The fabric for each pattern –
the truth of their culture...
 
The memory of the fallen,
a thread in the fabric,
sprinkled with the blood of the defenders...
They guard their hearts...
 
Every thread is woven with love,
creating a chain-mail embroidered shirt,
clinging to the skin of every defender...
They march with a whispered prayer for life...

In this poem, I am trying to convey that the dead of Ukraine,
Your heroes are cloaking every warrior, as if with a new
Vyshyvanka, against your skin, under the armor, the
white fabric's embroidery has been woven with threads
of the blood of the fallen, protecting each of you.
They are your shield, your invisible armor.
I tried to write the poem in the shape of a
Ukrainian Easter Egg, a Pysanky.
Both are so symbolic of Ukraine, the independent
identity of your culture, just as your unique language and history are.

під їхнім бронежилетом
вишиванка, молитва...
Їх захищають їхні полеглі...
 
Кожна нитка пофарбована вручну,
занурена в кров захисника...
Витягнута з котушки, виткана,
створюючи захисний щит...
 
Кожна сорочка, невидима, з чистого льону,
молитва цього народу...
Полотно для кожного візерунка –
істина їхньої культури...
 
Пам'ять про полеглих,
нитка у тканині,
окроплена кров'ю захисників...
Вони охороняють їхні серця...
 
Кожна нитка з любов'ю виткана,
створюючи кольчужну вишиванку,
що прилягає до шкіри кожного захисника...
Вони йдуть із шепотінням молитви про життя...

The threads of their fibers, memory
woven with their precious blood,
All Ukrainians march with them,
destroying their enemy, terror,
as bombs fall upon them,

A cloak of the dead – v3 #Poetry #Ukraine #victory #hope #courage #heroes #victory #Pysanky #Vyshyvanka #Valhalla #protection #armor

A prayer,
a fabric of steel,
a cloak of the dead,
a hedge of protection,
a breastplate of armor
 
Their warriors descending
drawn from rest in Valhalla,
creating a garment, a memory,
new embroidered Vyshyvanka,
 
Stitches of their fiber, memory,
woven with their precious blood,
 
their homeland goes with them,
vanquishing the enemy, terror,
bombs raining down on them,
protected by the warriors,
heroes in their stories
their revered dead
 each one…

A cloak of the dead – v3

 

In this poem I am trying to convey that the dead of #Ukraine,

your #heroes, are cloaking every #warrior, as if with a new

#Vyshyvanka, against your skin, under the armor, the

white fabric's embroidery have been woven with threads

of the blood of the fallen, protecting each of you.

They are your shield, your invisible armor.

 

I tried to write the #poem in the shape of a

#Ukrainian Easter Egg, a #Pysanky.

 

Both of these are so symbolic of #Ukraine, the independent

#identity of your #culture, just as your unique #language and #history are.

The Silence before the train - v3

grace fell upon him, bodily,

in his pain, his suffering then,
despair was wicked, taken away,
in the Silence before the train…

in the Silence before the train,
a gift of grace imparted, gifted,
God’s peace washed o’er him,
calm in his troubled spirit…

gifted time to slow, to sojourn,
to walk quietly with God, to remember,
love he needed in that moment,
in the Silence before the train…

in the silence before the train,
sensing God's presence with him,
lifting away his burdens, freedom,
calm in his troubled spirit...

A gift of life – 2 – v4

Surely You were with me, beside me,
on that day in that parking lot
a schism of time, a moment,
that changed my life forever,
when You protected me,
when You saved my earthly life…
 
A gift of life You gave me, precious, oh God,
bringing me back to my center, my faith, to You,
falling in tears in humble prayer,
for that I am eternally grateful
Father God, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit
in You alone I have life…

Ignite the Spirit, the flames,
the fire within me growing,
speak power to God’s love,
don’t quench the message,
that God has come to earth…
 
Ignite the Spirit, the flames,
the power of God’s promise,
kindle the fire, God’s light,
open our hearts wider
let the world shine bright…
 
Ignite the Spirit, the flames,
the fires of Pentecost,
touch each of our lives,
so we may be Your servants,
Your willing, broken vessels…
 
Ignite the Spirit, flames,
The ember burning within us,
Inspire us to praise, to pray,
To lean on You promises more fully,
To walk the way You have written…
