Maybe we are closer
living in the end times
more of the signs unfolding
God’s plan seemingly revealed
But all of the things to happen
coming in God’s time
not for us to know
only to be faithful
Living out God’s calling
using the gifts we have been given
trusting in our Savior
leaving all to God
We are to share his message
the urgency of now
for we know not the time
and tomorrow may be too late
God will come
just as he promised
fulfilling his covenant
healing the whole earth
The work already finished
as Christ said on the cross
but the gathering in God’s time
praying none will be lost

Only to be Faithful - 2
Not guided by our own compass
claiming that which is God’s
submitting to his purpose
giving up the illusion of control
We are to be his servants
open to his call
only to be faithful
giving God our all

The Hubris of Control
So much about us
the chaos of our time
thinking we are in control
when we should submit to God
to trust in our creator
focused on love
instead we screw things up
thinking we are in control

Would He Know Us
Would Christ recognize us
would we be his children
if today was his coming
would we be redeemed
Would our Savior
the call of our Shepherd
would we hear his voice
would we come when he called
We know not the time
but we should be ready
acting out of love
in all we say and do
We should be awake,
our lamps ever ready
looking for the signs
but acting in love
faithful to his call

Honest with Our Friends
Not just attacking,
judging our enemies
honest with our friends
standing with all people
Basic freedoms,

Would We Know Him - 2
Would we be like the Pharisees
questioning Christ
Would we know the Master
would we recognize him
would we heed his voice
If Christ came tomorrow
if the skies were to open
would the world shake
would we look up
Would we be gathered
would we be left behind
would we share with our Master
would we rise to paradise

If He Came Tomorrow
If Christ returned from heaven
if he came to the earth
if he came tomorrow
what would be our fate
Do we cleave to Him
to our Father
do we speak with power
the Spirit within
If we look in the mirror
do we see Christ’s reflection
when we look down
do we see his hands and feet

if Christ came tomorrow
if the skies were to open
and he was riding on the clouds
Would our friend, our families
our loved ones be included
when the Shepherd came
to gather in his sheep

The People Shall be Free
The time may be uncertain
but the tide has already turned
the peoples of those nations
that whole region of the world
The people shall be free
no matter how soon
the world shifting below them
freedom on the march
We must side with them
those who have been crying
who stand in the street
yearning to breathe free
We must never waiver
the time for expediency long gone
we will be judged
by how we stand with them now
but the tide has already turned
the peoples of those nations
that whole region of the world
The people shall be free
no matter how soon
the world shifting below them
freedom on the march
We must side with them

For We Know Not the Time
We should be faithful
acting as we profess
loving our neighbors
leaving God to the rest
Sharing the gospel
the good news within us
prepared for the rapture
when our Savior returns
Love should be flowing
our lamps brightly burning
awake for the coming
not asleep in the world
Standing as witnesses
messengers of the kingdom
prophets of a future
already promised by God

In God’s Time
As has always been
whether or not we like this
as Christ told us directly
not for us to know
The end to come
we are just to be faithful
our oil ready
and our wicks trimmed just so
We must be on watch
conforming our spirits
walking as our Shepherd did
for we know not the time

God’s Peace
In the quiet within us
at peace in God’s arms
sensing Him with us
out in this troubled world
Only in God’s peace
a calmness within
able to proclaim the message
to heal all brokenness
God’s peace enough
Christ’s grace enough
only in them
the strength to go on
The Spirit leading
drawn from above
led on by the Spirit

If We had not been Silent
For year upon year
for many ages, our leaders
presidents of both parties
all of them, failing to speak
If we had not been silent
the world’s superpower
would the people have had to rise up
would they have had to cry for their freedom
If we had not been silent
would they have lived in freedom
not becoming martyrs
would the war crimes tribunals
have crumbled into dust
History will judge
for those many years
when we remained silent
thinking about the present
not thinking about the others
Those people subjugated
so we could sleep soundly
far from the repression
blind to their suffering
half a world away

We would rise up
we would speak truth to power
we would not hesitate
thinking about the others
Our hearts open
standing in their shoes
we would rise as one
crying with them
for their freedom
from foe and friend alike
standing with the people
crying in the street
we would speak truth to power
we would not hesitate
thinking about the others
Our hearts open
standing in their shoes
we would rise as one
crying with them
for their freedom
from foe and friend alike
standing with the people
crying in the street

In a More Perfect World – 2
If only we could look
forward into time
if we had hindsight to guide us
to see how the things would turn out
our actions and inactions
our complicity to tyranny
The cost of our silence
looking out for number one
not caring about other peoples
In a more perfect world
a better version of ourselves
we would not have been expedient
thinking only of our interests
the urgency of the moment
the bottom line on the ledger only
thinking about our neighbors
as our Master told us to
to love one another
as we would love ourselves

In a More Perfect World – 1
In a more perfect world
we would never have strayed
we would held our Father
we would not have slipped away
Here we stand
at a crossroads
choosing our path
which way we will go
To follow the world
to live by the flesh
answering the call
of our wickedness
Or, to follow our Master
out into the world
to be His hands and feet
his presence on the street
Going, as we will choose
from our time set apart
three days in the belly
into an very imperfect world

Challenging Our Friends
Greatness will be defined
how history will judge
challenging our friends
not merely fighting our enemies
stating clear principles
applying them evenly
challenging our friends
not just shelling our enemies

When They Cried for Freedom
Too much credit
we need to be more humble
recognizing the delay
how slow we were to act
to give them aid
to give them comfort
holding onto old allegiances
not seeing tomorrow
When they cried for freedom
we should have acted
we must learn that lesson
when we are too timid
When we fritter away
the peoples’ mandate
when we remember friends
when they have brutalized their people
We must turn
live by our statements
that we should lift them up
when they cry out for freedom
Ours is to speak
to not remain silent
short-term expediency
does not excuse inaction
We must be resolute, bold,
standing with those yearning to breathe free
we need to be more humble
recognizing the delay
how slow we were to act
to give them aid
to give them comfort
holding onto old allegiances
not seeing tomorrow
When they cried for freedom
we should have acted
we must learn that lesson
when we are too timid
When we fritter away
the peoples’ mandate
when we remember friends
when they have brutalized their people
We must turn
live by our statements
that we should lift them up
when they cry out for freedom
Ours is to speak
to not remain silent
short-term expediency
does not excuse inaction
We must be resolute, bold,
standing with those yearning to breathe free

Even-Handed
We must be equal
even-handed in our actions
our diplomatic posture
for the people of the world
never siding with tyrants
ready to harm their people
the long-term goals
should always be for freedom
for the rights of all people
short-term expediency
should not crowd out
that which we value
torture or a blind-eye
should not be allowed
we must fight for freedom
all the world round.

Responding to the Spring
Our nation must be committed
speaking out in freedom
the aspirations of the people
responding to the spring
the Arab Spring of this season
The yearnings of these people
to breathe the air of freedom
to shake off the shackles
of friend and foe alike
to side with the people
striving for new life

To Proclaim Christ
All of us commissioned
drenched by the waters
the Spirit falling
down on each one of us
To proclaim Christ
to all the nations
to bring the good news
God’s message of life
To share the power
the Spirit moving
guiding us to follow
to go as Christ
To continue his ministry
bearing our witness
carrying his light
into the darkness

Only Shards Hanging
The weight of our own sin
only shards hanging
after the stones
have been thrown in our glass houses
how little we think
when we are judging others
the same test we would fail
if the light were shined
if the attention was cast
on our own failings
the costs of hypocrisy
falling like glass
shards only remaining
blood on the ground

Throwing Stones in Glass Houses
Standing in judgment
condemning others
when they stand in glass houses
shards all around
Throwing stones in glass houses
letting them fly
not remembering the teachings of Jesus
on casting the first stone
Too quick to judge,
hiding their hypocrisy
behind family values
when they have none of their own
Better to be humble
to focus within
to turn from the world
and reject our own sin

Thanking God in the Belly
In the time set apart
pulled from his life
Jonah thanking God
in the belly of the fish
There with him
sparing his life
sent for a purpose
the calling of his life
To go and serve
to be the carrion call
to save the people
the enemies of his people
faithful to God’s plan

thanking God within the tomb

Concentric Circles
The stones of service
gifts of God’s love
thrown into the waters
as seeds on the wind
forming concentric circles
but the ripples intersecting
bringing God close
offering grace in abundance

Christ Died for Me
My Savior lives
the cross was not the end
He has conquered the grave
no longer bound by my sin
Christ died for me
while I am yet of the flesh
dying that I may live
washed free of my stain
Now this is my time
redeemed by his blood
to take up my cross
to drink of my cup
To go as I am sent
to serve in true love
to offer them Christ
the perfect gift from above

Christ Died for You
Whoever you are
whatever your station
your walk in this life
whether or not in faith
Christ died for you
choosing the cup
accepting God’s purpose
his calling for his life
Christ took the pain
the suffering, humiliation
dying on the cross
ridiculed by his nation
He died for you
that you may live
I pray that you hear him
calling to you
To be his witness
bearing his love
carrying his light
into the world
Going as you are called
to be his hands and feet
offering Christ
to everyone you meet

To Offer Reconciliation
Our lives for a purpose
when we come to believe
receiving God’s forgiveness
falling to our knees
Living for a purpose
to offer reconciliation
the gift of salvation
open to all who will receive
Through Christ alone redeemed
by his sacrifice on the cross
his dying for us
that we would be made whole
We are his ambassadors
his hands and feet now
going forth to serve

Living in the Flesh
God calling us
in that distant country
calling us home
yet we refuse to listen
Living in the flesh
ignoring our Father,
straying from the flock
wallowing in our rebellion
We may choose
whether or not to follow
to live in the flesh
or to return to the Father
He is calling
calling us ever
to come back home
to relationship with Him
He is faithful
loving us freely
wanting us to come home
that we may live.

Healed of our brokenness
restored to our Creator

changing our lives forever

grace without merit
