In the Potter’s Hands

I am clay in the potter’s hands
Mold me, shape me, make me
What you will of me
Use me for your purposes
Imbue me with the skills, the spirit
To serve where you would have me serve
Performing the services you would intend
Wherever you would send me
However you would will me
To send me forth
From this space, this place
Into the world
As your servant, your son
Your child, in your image,
The image of your son,
Our brother, our example,
Our savior, like us clay
Held in the potter’s hands

In the Potter’s Hands – v5

Like malleable clay
warmed and cradled;
We are lovingly held and cherished
in the Potter’s hands.

Our lives, our all
held, ever in His care;
We are watched, guided,
led through our days.

If we will wear His yoke
living our lives with purpose;
We submit our way to Him
giving to the Potter’s hands

Clay in the Potter’s Hands – v3

When we puff ourselves up
go our separate ways
following other gods
we are led utterly astray

Forgetting our station
the distance from God
the Creator of the universe
when we are but dust

Clay in the Potter’s hands
fashioned by His desires
made in His image
but far from at His level

When we puff ourselves up
how far we do fall
in the pit, in despair
crying out to God

Sticky Clay – v3

To be sticky clay
not too far gone, hardened,
still wet, supple, giving,
in the hands of the Potter
malleable to His touch
fingered by His hands
ready for His direction

Going back on the wheel,
my choice, my submission
Seeking His guidance
the Spirit leading
conformed to Him
changing my life around
that I would follow Christ

Ever Let Me be Clay – v2

Not finished pottery
good china in the cabinet
never to be used
not risking it might be chipped.

Ever let me be clay
never hardened to break
ever pliable to Your touch
to the leading of Your hands.

Let me be wet, pliable,
feeling the Potter’s hands
ever molded to His needs
conformed to His plans.

On the Potter’s Hands – v2

Molded, shaped, reshaped
in the Potter’s hands,
imperfections worked out,
pulled from the clay,

Balance, symmetry,
made useful by His hands,
by the yielding of the clay
to the Potter’s touch

Transforming a lump of inert clay
to something wonderful,
useful to the Potter’s purposes;
A bit of clay still
on the Potter’s hands

Dirt and living water
dust and God’s breath of life
my vessel forming

A cup, a bowl, wide, giving,

working at the wheel – v2

the Potter touching inert clay
the stuff of the earth
dirt and living water
making the dead malleable
dirt and the breath of life
giving hope to the clay
ash and the Spirit
coming together
my vessel formed
within my mother’s womb
my vessel forming
made new again
by the touch of the Potter
in the loving hands of God
ever making me what God needs
working at the wheel

Clay – v5

inert matter given life
dust and the breath of God
ash and the Spirit
my vessel formed
dirt and living water
the clay of my body
within my mother’s womb
my vessel forming
by the touch of the potter
in the loving hands of God
turning on the wheel
formed by His hands

In the Potter’s Hands

I am clay in the potter’s hands
Mold me, shape me, make me
What you will of me
Use me for your purposes
Imbue me with the skills, the spirit
To serve where you would have me serve
Performing the services you would intend
Wherever you would send me
However you would will me
To send me forth
From this space, this place
Into the world
As your servant, your son
Your child, in your image,
The image of your son,
Our brother, our example,
Our savior, like us clay
Held in the potter’s hands
