Christ’s Healing

Aware of his power
the man called on the Lord
asking for healing
for Christ to so choose

Healing coming
in the choice of Christ, to love
to serve his brother
in his time of need

We too, you and I,
the same challenge,
the same choice to make
to help our brother, our sister
to answer, “I will”,
when they call.

Walking With Them

Choosing to walk, six-mile course
beautiful, brilliant fall afternoon
Very different than the daily struggle,
walking they do, to find food, water
walking in poverty, they have no choice.
But we, even in our abundance, trying, in a small way
walking with them, to remember them,
to reach out our hands, in love, in faith
to try, in this small way to help them
walking because they must

Fired up for Christ on Monday

One of the messages on the screen
we are so fired up for Christ
sitting safely, reverently, in the pews on Sunday
If only we could be fired up for Christ
Monday, throughout the week,
in our work, in our play, in our daily lives
as we live out our days,
never shy about our faith
what we believe,
ready to share our journey
our love of Christ
whenever the spirit moves us

Invisible Christians

A challenge, a call to be something different
not longer invisible Christians,
only seen in the pews on Sunday,
Standing up to be visible,
even among those who do not believe,
who will not confess
the truth of your existence, oh God
Standing up, to be visible,
professing our faith, each day
out in the world
bringing our faith, our Lord
our master’s love
to the ends of the earth

To Jerusalem

The wandering, the itinerancy, over;
his face set to Jerusalem
knowing the road, the way
the cross before him
The shame, the suffering, the sheep to be scattered
Fully aware, choosing the nails
humble savior, servant-king
going, purposefully, forward
knowing what was to come
submitting himself nonetheless
choosing the thorns, the way, the cross;
his face set toward Jerusalem
the same steps we follow still
in remembrance of his mighty acts
leading us, with him, with them
from ashes to heaven

Guests of the King

We are all invited
to be guests of the king
to enter into the banquet hall
for the wedding of the son
We are all invited,
by the slaves of the king
to don our robe and enter in
From the streets we are called
no one is left out
to become guests of the king
and slaves to God

Holding Back

Like the boy, the widow
like Barnabas
Not holding back, giving all
what they had, given for God
We must be like them all
turning our all,
all we have been given,
all we are, over to God

All He Had

All he had,
two fish, five loaves
giving all, for them
a different story than the others
an offering, a sacrifice at the start
holding nothing back, trusting
giving all by faith
feeding them all
with abundance to spare

What will They Say about Poverty? – Blog Action Day

What will they say? Obama? McCain?
about the state of poverty, here? around the world?
what would they do? to make a difference?
to change the world?

Will they speak boldly? against the injustice?
the unfairness? Will they really fight?
so all will know plenty? that none will starve?
to change the world?

Shouldn’t we demand it? That now is the time?
that millennia of injustice must end?
that we have the means in this time?
to change the world?

More Than Enough – Blog Action Day

There is more than enough, more than enough food, water
to sustain the planet, that poverty, that hunger
would vanish from the face of the earth. No more.
It is will alone, selfishness, a choice, free will
We choose to order the world, haves and have nots
Not random chance, not something outside our control
Choices near and far, building on history, indifference
tolerance for inequity. No more.
Today is the start, a spotlight on injustice
a world crying out. No more.
Let these seeds bloom and grow
let the world together hear their single message
let each one do their part. No more.

Walking With Them - Blog Action Day

Choosing to walk, the six-mile course
of a beautiful, brilliant fall afternoon
Very different than the daily struggle,
walking they do, to find food, potable water
walking in poverty, they have no choice.
But we, even in our abundance, trying, in a small way
walking with them, to remember them,
to reach out our hands, in love, in faith
to try, in this small way to help them
help them with their daily bread, with their water
walking with them, because they must

Holding Her Hand - Blog Action Day

Wanting so much to walk, for them,
so they would have something to eat,
some clean water to drink, that those in need
would have no want; that is why we walked
Holding her hand, at the back of the pack
the last walkers, struggling up the hill
We walked because of their poverty,
something she believed worth it.
Her faith carrying her on, each of them
walking, trudging, scuffing their feet
Holding their hands, each in turn,
encouraging them, and their cause
walking with them, because so many
have to walk, for food, for water
