once we were perfect - v3

once we were perfect,
innocent of sin;
we walked with God
in the cool of the evening.
 
then sin entered,
the fruit, the snake;
Adam and Eve were
cast out of the Garden.
 
but God was cast out
of all of creation;
our sin too great a barrier
to our continued communion.
 
God, the Father,
only in heaven;
the breach healed
by Christ, our Savior.

God is not here

God is not here
on earth but in heaven;
God no longer walks with man
in the cool of the evening.
 
In a sense it was God
who was cast out of the Garden;
God no longer rests His feet
on fertile ground.

Out of the Chaos – v3

From out of the chaos, the void

in the beginning, God created

all made by the Creator,

all from nothingness, the chaos

the universe, the earth

the seas, the dry places

the waters, the plants, the creatures

and then man, all was good,

good in God’s sight,

very good indeed

An Image of the Garden – v2

I often dream, daydream,

imagining the Garden

the world forming, from nothingness

the heavens, the waters tamed

The garden, a home for the animals

for Adam, for Eve

dominion given, stewards

of this good earth

Lush, verdant, green

balanced, ordered,

God’s own creation

God’s plan for eternity

Walking, communing with the Creator

lingering, unburdened, walking

How I wish we all could

that we all would live in that garden

surely naked

After eating of the forbidden fruit

Adam was surely naked

exposed for the clay that he was;

the presence of God departed

no longer in communion

with the Creator of heaven and earth.

After the curse of wisdom

seeing his station clearly,

the divide between himself and God;

oh yes, he was surely naked.

6th Sunday in Lent (Palm Sunday

“That slippery snake”

-         Mystery Box – rubber snake

-         Who is afraid of snakes?

o   lots of hands went up!

o   they are scary, big, they might bite you; you could die

-         That concern goes way back in time, to the Garden of Eden

-         Everything changed

o   because of a sneaky little snake called Satan

-         The snake tempted, lied to Eve that eating the fruit would make them

like God

o   Eve took the bait

-         Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden

-         The snake was destined to crawl on her belly

-         The snake, Satan, still seeks to tempt us

-         Jesus was tempted in the wilderness

o   Satan took him to the top of the temple

o   Satan showed him all the kingdoms of earth

o   Satan offered to turn a stone into bread

-         All Jesus had to do was to worship Satan

-         Three times Jesus said no

-         Jesus relied on scripture, on the Word of God, to answer Satan

-         One of the kids said, “I know why he is a snake, because he rolls around in the dirt.

-         Ray said that they should have remembered, “Don’t listen to talking snakes.”

-         Prayer that we will remember to rely on God’s Word to defeat the temptations of Satan.

a third garden – v3

two gardens come to mind

of Eden, of Gethsemane

places with different results

when they were faced with temptation

there is a third garden

in the story of this season

the garden on Easter

where Mary met Jesus

where she walked in the garden

just as Adam and Eve walked

with God in the cool of the evening

before the Fall, the choice they made

a third garden, with Jesus,

our Risen Lord and Savior,

healing the breach of Adam, of Eve,

walking with Mary in that garden.
