Threads of Our Journey – v5

A tapestry is being stitched
year by year, and thread by thread
story by story, moment by moment
step by step, yes, thread by thread

Pictures of our life together
coming alive, vivid and wonderful
with threads of gold, reds,
of silver, of royal purple, joining
threads of hope, of faith, of love

Our story unfolding, revealed,
the threads joined, growing
in the fabric, the knitted, creating
the one tapestry of our life

Threads of Her Journey – v3

A tapestry is being woven
written in the heavens
story by story, stitch by stitch,
step by step, thread by thread;
Pictures of her life come alive
with threads of gold, of red
of silver, of royal purple.
Threads of hope, of faith, of love;
her story unfolding, revealed,
in the fabric, the knitted threads,
a living tapestry of her life.

(a lower case) Happy Anniversary – v3

Not one of the big ones, counted,
the Golden, the Silver, not even Tin
But one of our special days, we remember,
a date on the calendar, written on our lives,
A lower case happy anniversary
for each of us

Reminding us, of the day in Your church,
Now more than ten years ago
When we repeated our vows,
those cried out on that December morn’
in the open, under that snowy sky

Sharing words of our love, for each of us
covenantal, deep, abiding, enduring
in ancient words of scripture
in the prayers prayed over us
binding us together, tighter
now Before our family, our God, our church

Saying happy anniversary this morning,
Sitting, stilled, for a moment,
Sharing some toast at the table
Amid the bustle of our day
A smile on your face in reply
Stealing a bit of time, precious,
Sharing time together
On one of our continuing
lower case anniversary days

Around the Calendar We Go – v2

Another year is about to begin
of a story that doesn’t grow old
of the way we met, the lives we left
the things we learned and we know now

For you are my wife, the love of my life
the one with whom I’ll grow old
the one with whom I share my days
So these words are written for you
though they may only be a few.

They share a tale of love and hope
found in our heads and in our hearts
of the dream of a life without end
where we will be more than friends.

Where we will walk with the saints
the apostles of old, the prophets,
and we will ever be bold
To run to our Brother and kneel
and thank Him for what he had done.

To give us a chance to live and to grow,
So around the calendar we go
to wait and to hope to the end
when the world will come to a close.

And the glorious day will come
and we’ll bow and we will rise once more
when we too can look in His eyes
and thank Him for His precious gift
of love and of grace.

Doubly Blessed – v2

Knowing, abiding
doubly blessed
all of the joy
wonderment
fulfillment of covenant

coming before God
under the winter sky
before our church family
to affirm our vows again

In this community
our friends and family
proclaiming our love
for one another
our commitment before God

to live as husband and wife
submitting to each other
in our house, to serve the Lord
going where He calls
to do our Master’s work

A Different Anniversary – v2

A year ago we completed a journey
of faith, of hope, of love
A different anniversary
than our first, before God

Our first, a year and four month ago,
was a first sharing of I do’s,
our joining before God and friends
under a snow filled sky
out in God’s creation

Today is the first anniversary
of our covenant before You
in our house of faith
joining our hands and hearts
not in contract but in
a loving covenant

How I love you more today
a richer, deeper commitment
a more mature love
as we continue our journey
in another season
together, under God

She is my inspiration – v2

She is my inspiration
source of many of my words
her hand to guide me
through the trials of this world

Teaching me from your Word
experiences of her life
walking with me daily
on my journey of faith

We are so blessed, filled
joy overflowing
wanting only this to continue
until God comes in Glory

Bronze / Pottery – v3

In so many ways,
bronze is so appropriate
we see things so differently
yet together we are stronger
two metals joined, bound together
united in love

forged into one
Our life a melding, a blessing
a fusion of two lives
together we are stronger, more resilient
bounded by human love

the other image,
the anniversary emblem
that of pottery, of fired clay;
that too who we are
a life together,
a vessel

molded by God
stronger by his hand
reshaped for his purpose
to bear love in this land, this nation
our purpose, our calling, our hope together

The smell of memory

Life in rituals, in moments gathered
in sharing the same steps, the journey
our life together, scents merging
the smell of memory, of chocolate
filling the kitchen, the house
a discussion of cooking
of texture, of flavor

the girls gathered round
(as are the Yorkies)
waiting for tastes, for droppings
opportunities presenting
to share some of the dinner
during the preparations, the makings
before the first portion
is put on a plate

The warmth of Your embrace

With me on this journey
of faith, of life
walking with me ever,
my loving friend, my wife

Wanting to be with you
until God comes again
hoping for many years
that this would never end

Hoping for many years
to see the children of our children
wanting to grow old with you
in the warmth of your embrace
