Those who would betray him – v2

His last supper
His last meal on earth
with his dear friends
with those who would betray Him
the Rock who would deny Him
those who would run away
leaving him to the cross
sharing a last meal
before his trial
before he was betrayed
by one of his own

to save the world

not our task, our call
to be the hands and feet
of the risen Christ
not to save the world
that was His burden
to take on our sins
to climb the rugged cross
we are to be
the hands and feet of Christ
in our time and place
to walk as he walked
to love our fellow man
we are to share
the light, the love of God
we are to boldly go
to answer our Master’s call

but this is not our task

the prayer of believers
to be Christ’s hands and feet
hard to raise this pray
as he chose the cross
to open wide his arms
to take on the sins of man
but we are to remember
that this offering was for all
once and for all time
this is not our task
other work to be done
our shoulder to the plow
in the yoke of Christ
going forth as he did
out into the world

how do we pray this on Good Friday

so many of us, believers,
seeking to follow, to be Christ,
to bear witness fully
to take on His yoke
praying to be His hands and feet
to share his ministry, his love
to be Christ in the world
as we are called
yet how do we pray this on Good Friday
in our pain, in our sorrow
knowing he took on the sins of the world
and chose to climb the cross
how do we say these words
how is this our prayer
on the darkest day of the year
when Christ climbed the cross

on dry barren ground

God more than able
planting loving seeds
words planted in us
when we are on our knees
a harvest from seeds
scattered on dry barren ground
life in the kernel
in the hand of God

a harvest

a garden
the harvest of the Lord
from small seeds

life in the soil
God plants them deeply
in our hearts
our reward

the choice of almighty God
to grow a harvest worthy

goes through it alone

in shafts of color
in beams of light
the light of heaven
falling on the Christ
holding His body
but a foreshadowing
of His Ascension
shafts of color falling
bathing them in light

the beauty around us

mired in our struggles
our slogging through this life
looking down only
never looking up
the beauty around us
the hand of God’s creation
life, love abounding
while we are lost in our struggles
carrying far too much
not giving our burden over
to our King, Almighty God

focus on my walk with you

I let the winds speak to me
I feel them pulling me down
into the waters, I am drowning
I cry out to you, oh Lord
I pray for strength
to wall out the distractions
to focus on my walk with you
to cleave to my portion
your goodness, your mercy
the plans you have for me
letting the wind swirl around me
but standing on the water
the living water of faith
buoyed by the Spirit
led by you hand
