no matter our struggles – v3

No matter our struggles
what we may face in this life,
We should fear no evil
for Christ died for us

No matter the challenges
the real dark places we travel,
We have nothing to fear,
because God is ever with us

No matter our todays
our yet to be tomorrows,
We shall fear nothing, because
the Spirit abides with us.

focus on my walk with you – v2

I let the winds speak to me
I have felt them pulling me down
into the waters; I am drowning
I cry out to You, oh Lord.

I pray for strength, for power,
to wall out the distractions
to focus on my walk with You
to cleave to my portion.

The plans You have for me
Your goodness, Your mercy
letting the wind swirl around me;
but standing on the water.

The living water of faith
buoyed by the Spirit;
Led by Your hand
serving in the Kingdom.

ease my worries – v3

Give me peace, Lord
ease my worries;
The chains upon my heart
separating me from You.

Give me peace
replace my anxiety;
Call me to Your loving arms
to the warmth within You.

We are safe in the storms
in the trials that come;
God walks with us
surrounding us in love.

focus on your plan – v2

Lord I pray that I may
wall out the clutter
the chaos of this world
that I would listen to Your voice
that You would calm my trembling nerves
driving me to drink
to distraction, away from
the path You have before me
I need to focus on Your plan
Your call from my life

what have I taught them

what have I taught them
by my words, my actions
have I been righteous
have I been loving
have I done more good than harm
what would they say
if I were on trial
what would they read
of what is written
in the book of life?

ripping off the mask of anger – v2

tearing away at the wounds, the scar tissue
making them face their demons
the reality of the chaos
their choices have spread
needing them to see
to soften the scar tissue

a mask, a second skin
a long-known way of living
seeing the world through a clouded lens
through a jaundiced vision
knowing pain, familiar, reflecting
holding onto this,
strangely comforting

ripping off their mask of anger
a forced act of healing
something they know so well
that they have seen in the mirror
lines etched on their faces
part of their portrait
not giving it up willingly,
it has to be taken from them

a mask, a second skin
layer upon layer
pulling at the threads
that it might unravel
forcing them to let go
to release their anger
that which keeps them
from walking in the light

ripping off their mask of anger
their scabs, their bandage,
damage, their life, the scar tissue
exposing the wounds, issues
the source of that anger
only then able truly
to leave it to God.

fits of rage

one of the sins
articulated, of the flesh,
a pattern slowly
fading, receding
fits of rage
anger, dissension
fewer, farther between,
but needing the Spirit
to stop acts of the flesh
sin yet stalking
seeking to grab us
to pull us down
into sin, the pit
calling to us
lies of the Devil
words of Satan
falling sweetly
from his lips.
call to the Spirit
to calm your passions
speak love quickly
to heal brokenness
call down a hedge
of protection, fill it
with the blood of the Lord
our Savior and King, Jesus.

I have seen it on her

I have seen it on her
I have seen it in him
I have worn it as a garment
a second skin
you can see it, hanging,
the garb, the second skin,
a cloak of anger
pain within
they wear the hurt
a mask, garish,
the scars on the outside
their faces tormented
by the anger within
I have seen it on her
I have seen it in him
I have worn it as a garment
a second skin

the solution silence
when angry, pray
give it to God
pray for who wronged you
pray forgiveness
let go of the anger

pray for peace
give it to God
God forgave us
through the sacrifice of Jesus
