Each of us found sheep
found by our shepherd
gone away, astray
to a distant country
Called back by God
into his embrace
in the arms of God
finding we are safe

Finding Lost Sheep
To be Christ’s hands
the hands and feet of God
going as we are sent
Out into the world
Finding lost sheep
the ones who ran away
those who do not know the Lord
those who have gone astray

giving up
Gone, run away
heading for home
impatient, unbelieving
not trusting in God
We are to be trusting
never giving up
remaining faithful

The miracle they demanded
The workers’ demand
the proof of his authority
the temple torn down
raised in three days
But they weren’t there
standing in the garden
the accusers not believing
the disciples run away
The miracle they demanded
fulfilled that blessed morning
only Mary was there
to see the risen Christ
She alone,
had stayed truly faithful
understanding true repentance
her heart changed by Christ

I don’t Say
I don’t say
often enough
how much I love you
how you changed my life
I don’t share
what is in my heart
the well overflowing
I don’t say I love
nearly enough
I love you
my beautiful wife
more than I can say
the words not enough
I hope to show you
more and more
each day
just how I feel
as we live each day
Together, forever
on the journey, our walk
walking together

Like Stones Cast into the Oceans
Our gifts, our talents
the meager coins we share
like stones cast into the ocean
sending ripples
to distant shores
carrying messages
hope in our giving
returning part
of the blessings we receive
ever more, may we offer
that our love
may be poured
offered up
like the widow
giving all
unto Thee

like stones in a pool of water
sending ripples
to the shores
a message of hope
our love ever farther
offering them Jesus
with our gifts cast
sent into the ocean
to bring Christ to the world

The assurance of Jesus

To My Father and Your Father
Part of his message
to Mary in the garden
to tell the others

promising us God

of healing, there in the garden
in the words he spoke to Mary
to be shared with all of us

Mary, at the Foot of the Cross
When other ran, fled
denied they knew his name
Mary, at the foot of the cross
there when our Savior died
She was faithful
going as they took him away
returning to care for him
to wash his beaten face
Alone in the garden
in despair of not finding him
at the grave when he arose
calling out to her
Mary, a daughter of Eve
the first to see our Lord
risen, walking with us
life forevermore

Through the Blood that Flowed
The lamb, the Paschal Lamb
the blood of the lamb
through the blood that flowed
the altar of the cross
the blood of Christ
that ran down the cross
Only through him
the Son of the living God
able to walk with him
in the garden
our journey in this life
In him alone
do we have
eternal life

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
Nothing unimportant
all that was written
power in that moment
the first of his resurrection
Mary in the garden
waiting in anguish
needing to see Jesus
rewarded that day
Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene
before any others
not the disciples
who fled and ran away
she who was humble
forgiven and redeemed
the daughter of Eve
the first to see Jesus

go . . . and tell others
Not for us alone
the message of salvation
just as Jesus sent Mary
we are to go. . . and tell others
to share the good news
that Christ is alive
he is going before us
to wait for us
on that distant shore
We are to be faithful
to be like Mary
believing in our Savior
and going where we are led
serving our neighbors
that all of them are fed
brought to our Savior
to live with him in glory
each of us for a purpose
sent into the world

Just as Jesus called Mary’s name
We are called
just as Jesus called Mary’s name
alive, with her
standing in the garden
risen, reborn
salvation in his rising
God calls us by name
right when we need him
in our despair, our anguish
the trials of this life
with us when we are faithful
and when we run away
calling us to him
by our very name

God calls us by name
In the quiet
in the garden
in our slumber
our sorrow, our struggle
when we are joyful
when we are sad
God calls us by name
just like Jesus in the garden
calling Mary from her anguish
He is risen, Christ is alive
right by our side
walking with us
when we have faith
when we believe
just as Mary did
understanding his forgiveness
reconciliation, new birth
walking with our Savior

Like He Said He Would
He must have anguished
suffered so greatly
not just the insults
the whips
the crown of thorns
even the cross
the physical torture
none of that as painful
as the betrayal and denial
the abandonment at the cross
alone, to die, our sin, our stain
painted on his flesh
Oh that the disciples
had not fled, run away
they would have shared with Mary
that moment in the garden
He had risen
like He said He would
our Savior alive
walking here with us
going forth with us
out into the world
sharing his message
salvation in his name

The light returning

but she was there

not understanding he was risen
but she was there

Mary was the one
Mary was the one
who remained faithful
with Christ at the cross
when the world
was wrapped in darkness
Mary was the one
who stayed in the garden
there when Christ appeared
risen and immortal
She was gifted
this living daughter of Even
blessed by his mercy
forgiving her on her knees

Mary stayed by the tomb
The first to come to him
to minister to his body
Mary stayed by the tomb
with Peter and John ran away
She was there with him
standing in the garden
unable to see him as Jesus
until he called her
Mary, oh Mary
remaining ever faithful
blessed in his rising
forgiving her completely

Mary stayed with Jesus
not wanting to let him go

because she loved him so
She stayed faithful

first to see Jesus
the daughter of Eve
the women who had been judged

She had remained
when the others ran away
sealing the breach

Cleansed Completely
Loved ever
cleansed completely
washed by our Savior
cleaned by his blood

infused with love
sent for in service

beating within
guided in its leading
washed in your love

Our Story to Share
No matter how damaged
how chipped, imperfect
We have a message
our story to share
how He healed me
how I was restored
washed by the Savior
by his redeeming blood
drenched by the Spirit
washed in God’s love

John 20:1-18 Common English Bible
Acts 10:33-43 Common English Bible
“I Know My Redeemer Lives”
Christ is risen!
He has risen indeed!
The Lord be with you
And also with you
Let us pray. . .
Loving, Merciful, God, thank you for this day, thank you for this day that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Thank you that you loved us so much that your mercy said no to sin and death, your mercy said no to the broken relationship that we, you creation had with you. Thank you, that in your mercy, you made us right again through the blood that flowed down from Calvary’s Cross. We ask for your spirit to be with us this day as we celebrate the Resurrection of your Son and our Savoir, Jesus Christ. May we hear the message that you have for us this day. Speak Lord. . . your redeemed are listening. . .
All four Gospels have the recount of the resurrection of Jesus. I think that my favorite is the one found in John chapter twenty verses one through twenty. It has so much meaning for me, it is rich a rich piece of scripture that holds a special meaning in my heart. It is the one that Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene, she being the first to see Jesus after His resurrection. It reads (and I’m reading from the Common English Bible this morning). . . read text. . .
Here is Mary, in so much pain and agony over the death of her teacher, the one who was ready to go and prepare His body for the “next world”, only to find Him still in the world that she lived in. He was not dead. . . He had risen like He said He would. What a Easter Morning surprise. . . how wonderful it must have been for her to know that her teacher. . . the one who accepted her as she was (remember. . . she was a woman of “ill repute” and He accepted her and forgave her of her sins, He had saved her from a stoning from the religious leaders by tell them “ye without sin, cast the first stone”, and they all walked away.), was still with her. She was so excited that she wanted to hold Him and not let go. I think I can understand her excitement and joy. There have been times in my life when I have had people in my life that have made such a difference in it that I wanted to keep them close and never let go. But as life would have it, I have had to say goodbye to them in one way or another only to find them back in my life at a later time and place. What a joy it was to see them again and have them back in my life.
You see. . . Mary stayed by the tomb. Even though the two disciples went away puzzled by what they say. . . Mary was the one who remained faithful by the tomb. She stayed and was able to see the risen Lord for herself. She was the one who experienced the joy of the Resurrection first. Now thinking about Mary at the tomb I am reminded about a conversation I had with a very good friend of mine this week. We were talking about the implications of Mary seeing Jesus first. You see. . . it was a daughter of Eve that saw him first. Now. . . it seemed as if God was saying that the original sin of Eve was being forgiven. Here we have a woman, Mary who was of “ill repute” , a daughter of Eve, who down the years has been seen as the one who started this whole disobedience to God in the Garden of Eden, being the first to see Jesus. . . it was if God was saying that He forgives that sin, from the Garden, so much that He will allow a daughter of Eve to see Jesus first. She alone was faithful. . . she alone never left Jesus during the week that had proceeded that Easter morning. . . the disciples fled and ran away but she was there, at the foot of the cross, when Jesus breathed His last.
And even better than that. . . Jesus told her to tell the disciples that He was going to ascend to “my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” All was forgiven then as it is now. They were still children of God, even though the deserted Jesus in his hour of need. This is the wonderful message of Easter. This was and is a wonderful message to His disciples then as it still is today. . . each and every one of His disciples.
Beloved children of God. . . there is a message that has reached beyond the grave to you and to me. . . there is a message of hope and renewal. Loved reached beyond the grave. Mary’s and ours today loyalty to Jesus was and is rewarded (remember. . . Jesus has gone to prepare a room for you and for me in His and our Fathers house). She saw the risen Lord first. As with Mary, God knows us personally and calls us by name. . . just as Jesus called Mary’s name. We. . . like Mary. . . have a job to do. . . we as disciples have a story to tell. . . a story of sorrow and joy, a story that has it’s villains and hero’s, a story of triumph and defeat, a story that never gets old only better. We need to follow the message that Jesus gave Mary. . . the message to “go. . . and tell others”.
It’s resurrection Morning church! Jesus has conquered sin and death! Go. . . tell. . . share the story! Christ is Risen. . . He has risen indeed!
AMEN?!
