Do not cause them to stumble

Mindful of each person
of their position
their place on the journey
lifting them up
not causing them to stumble
cheering them on
seeking their salvation
the redemption of the cross
leading them to our Savior
the gate of the Christ
guided by the Spirit
leading to paradise

For the sake of your brother

Do not hold to your freedom
submit as a slave
for the sake of your brother
conform to their beliefs
abstaining from eating
even though it is freedom
to eat what God created
defer to your neighbor
working in harmony
for the sake of their salvation

The good of others

The work of salvation
of the journey, the quest
serving our master
forgetting the rest
Not for our own selves
for the good of others
serving our master
giving our lives over
committing fully
holding nothing back
given ourselves over
for the good of others
a harvest for the Lord

All can be done
permissible now
not bound by the law
freed to make our choices
but not all constructive
leading to righteousness
some leading to destruction
separated from the Christ

releasing us from the law
all permissible, allowed
by our choice, our will

for the people of Christ

A participation in His Sacrifice

We all are one body
one body in Christ
sharing his table
the journey to the cross

A participation in his sacrifice
his body, the cup
giving his life for us
that we would be bound up

Gathered in for glory
to see paradise
standing at the foot of his cross
the price he paid for us

That I may share in its blessings

I wonder in reading
the chapter to the people
the members of his flock
the musings of the shepherd
the manic drive
the thing deep inside
striving to undo
the harm that he caused

The words of transformation
of all that he became
driven to share
that others may be brought to life
that the message be shared
in all languages, traditions
that he may share
in the blessings of salvation

Does this tell us
more about the apostle
who preached of salvation
of all the means of grace
yet he himself
the driven zealot
aware of his unworthiness
trying to claim salvation
by the work of the Spirit
the sharing of the Gospel
becoming a slave to all
that they may be freed

Didn’t he see
that the thing he professed
the saving by grace
for him like all the rest

Healed from blindness
turned right around

I became weak

To save the weak
those who were timid
not believing the freedom
paid by the Christ

I became weak
bound by the strictures
so that I would not be
their stumbling block

Submitting my freedom
enslaved by their beliefs
to bring them to God
to show them the Christ

Anything needed
to bring them to Jesus
to gather a harvest
of souls for the Lord

If I do not preach the Gospel

Woe to me, deep in my spirit
anguished nights, crying, weeping
anger in struggle, when words are short
when other issues, trials
keep me from speaking

If I do not preach the Gospel
sharing God’s message
in the words he gives me
in the compelling of the Spirit
I am bereft, in pain, agony
needing to share
God’s blessings on me

Compelled to Preach

The Spirit controlling
the flesh weak
submitting to God
that I may teach

Compelled to preach
to share one message
the gospel coming
pouring from me

Nothing of choice
truly taken over
only that I be empty
that I may be filled
giving myself over
to God’s holy word

Set Yourself as an Example

Because others are watching
the weak, the young
pay close attention
to your journey, your purpose

Set yourself as an example
staying on course
following the path
that none will be lost

Freed from rigid living
by the freedom of Christ
giving his life
redeeming us from the lost

Yet following the law
the ancient traditions
that none would be led astray
by a belief in false teachings

Walking more purposeful
following all strictures
faithful to the law
though I am freed from its restrictions

For the sake of my brother
fulfilling all language
the law, the precepts,
the fine point, precision

That none would fall

staying in bondage

Yoked to the rules

Love Builds Up

Humble, not proud
focused on our neighbors
bringing them to God
gifts of God’s love

Love builds up
brings them from the gutter
rising from the dust
to walk unto the Lord

Giving our witness
sharing our blessings
showing them the way
to walk with our Master

Joy in the sharing
of the holy purpose
bringing others humbly

An Enemy Within

In the stalemate of rebellion
the unfinished sanctions
the madman remaining in power
at the cost of so much
the guns of anger
the dogs of war loosed
an enemy within
whatever the outcome

So much lost
so many martyrs
because of the desire
of the people to be free
the Madman in the bunker
the bombs falling
while the media spewed his lies
his invectives, his bile

Factions forming
before the war is over
needing greater closure
before the next toll
the cost of no conclusion
playing into the hands
of those who sow dissension.

Radicalized Factions

We cannot control
the direction of nations
friends and enemies
competing for the stage.
We know
the face of this tyrant
whatever comes
he must leave this place
he must not stay in power.
A known threat
whatever the outcome
the madman must be removed
from his seat of power

The color of the flames

a thought of the sacrifice
written in his blood
the wine, the water
quenching of the punishment
judgment resolved
in the fire, the flame
coming to life
in the turning of the page
the story of a people
bound in covenant
protected by his sacrifice
brought back to life
fed by the fire
the Spirit’s flame
calling us to him
to a place with him again
healed of our punishment
living through the flames

“A Sign of Our Heritage”
======

A Sign of Our Heritage

The old, old boards
chipped, splintered
weathered white
fading to gray
the flame, the cross
the words of our welcome
calling our neighbors
into your house, Oh Lord
a sign of our heritage
of our bond to this place
hoping to see our neighbors
a smile upon their face
in the turning of the seasons
the leaves turning from green to red
our doors open, a community to be fed

Beyond this treasure

The story of the challenge
the testing of Jesus
asked about taxes
speaking greater wisdom

Beyond the treasure
the balance of power
the limited scope of the King
and the infinite power of God

What is Caesar’s

What is Caesar’s
what is his due
the things of this earth
no value in heaven
the things that rust
that turn back to dust
precious metals
that sparkle, twinkle
yet of no worth
in the courts of heaven

A heart for the Creator
for our Savior
yoked with him
on the journey of life
so much more
for the one true protection
for the king of kings
and the lord of all time

the words you have for us

Lord, we ask for your blessing
awareness of your presence
feeling you with us
in this time, this place

Speak with us with power
may we be open to your message
the words you have for us
to go and serve in your name

Share with us your presence
guide us on the journey
show us were to serve
to fulfill your holy purpose

Give us eyes to see
the wonders of your creation
ears to hear
the cries of the needy

And hearts open
to be your hands and feet
your voices for justice
on this troubled earth

the lives of others

one of the ways we see Christ
we know God is here with us
in looking at the lives of others
how God has touched them
transforming their lives
bringing them closer to him

Calling us to witness
to tell our own stories
of the way God brought us from death
changing our lives completely
on the path to glory
journeying here in this life
being his voice, his light
carrying the message, sacred
the power of his love

at work in our lives

in the middle of worship
in the middle of prayer
drawing us to you
finding you here
speaking to us
the voice of the Spirit
stirring within me
how you are alive, with us
at work in our lives now
changing us completely
saving us from death
guiding us to you
if we choose to be led
to walk with our Savior
guided by your call
your Spirit burning brightly
within us one and all

We ask for eyes to see

Speak to us Lord
in new ways
to reach our closed hearts
to open up our spirits
We ask for eyes to see
to believe even when we cannot
to go and do your work
the stirrings of the Spirit
your power burning bright
deep within us
giving us eyes to see
your calling for our lives
the way we can serve you
by serving those around us
to see where we should be
to be your faithful servants

We pray for your presence
for your Spirit
here, now,
speaking to us
lifting our hearts
sharing your message
your small voice whispering
the musings of your heart
your plan for us
the story of our lives
that we be conformed to you
to share your message
your love for us all
giving us salvation
showered from above
falling down upon us
drenched in eternal love

God, Lord, Creator of all
you who makes the world new
each and every day
We enter in, sharing
this joy, this place, this morning
that you would speak to us
and we would still our spirits
to hear your message for us
with open hearts anew
that we would cleave to you
in everything we do

Still Worldly

The concern of the pastor
of their young faith
their belief in the world
feet in two camps

Needing focus
following one master
standing on the good news
the revelation of Christ

Still worldly
caught up in its grip
needing to repent
to turn back to our God

The Foundation of Christ - 2

All of us standing
on the structure created
the body growing
as each one is added

The foundation of Christ
the cornerstone, the center
the head of the body
the body of the church

All of us standing
on this one foundation
the love of God sent
in the form of one man

Redeeming us all
back from the pit of death
leading us on
to a place in paradise
unbound by four walls
yet standing on this foundation

Testing our fruits
the faith we profess
how we walk in this life
the work that we do
Through the crucible of judgment
the fire of God’s light
seeing if we have done the work
that leads to life

Through the flames

The fire of flames
through the judgment of God
the works of the builders
of the workers in time
judged by the fires
to see what lasts
burning away
the dross, the excess
that which does not lift up
only that which remains
precious in God’s sight

changed completely

to the people
to follow his path
to imitate Paul
in the way of the cross
Imitate me

in his letter to Corinth
to the new believers

yoked to the cross
staying true to the path

Expel Them from Among You

Those who are false believers
wicked, holding onto their treasure
unrepentant of their sin
unable, unwilling to see
A harsh teaching, ostracized,
cast out, into the darkness
expel them from among you
utterly repudiated
lost from your midst
Only prayer, that they will turn
a judgment of unrighteousness

Justified in the name of Christ

The Spirit making us right
justified in the name of Christ
members of his body
the temple growing
together being
the body of Christ

Serving, humble
our hands to his work
our feet going
to those who are in need
fed by the law
the Spirit within
leading us to service
in the name of our Lord

You were washed clean

All of our filth
the sin of our lives
all washed away
by the blood of the Christ

You were washed clean
pure, made as snow
born anew
into life evermore

United with Christ
imbued by the Spirit
part of the Christ
the living temple of God

Members of Christ

Our bodies, temples
holding the Holy Spirit
divine beings

Fealty to His Law

What matters to God
not what we save
empty rituals, rites
what matters to God
is what we do
fealty to his laws
his commands for our lives
submitting ourselves
giving him our all
conforming our steps
to the spirit of his law

His Interests Divided

The single man more able
to give his life to God
his interests not divided
in his family, his life
Yet we are to serve
to be faithful to God
all of us to act holy
in the way of the word
To give God our all
our undivided devotion
those of the Spirit
our family
giving ourselves
all of our treasure
our lives, our purpose
all we are
giving as Christ did
everything, his all
giving ourselves
all unto God

Undivided Devotion

Our goal, our focus in life
to offer our all
just as did the Christ
Undivided devotion
our all unto God
giving our whole selves
giving our all
to his holy purpose
accepting the work
serving humbly
out in the world

Choosing to be Slaves

Following the example of our Master
our Savior, the Christ
choosing to submit
to give up our lives

Giving to God
the rest of our days
submitting to him
choosing to be slaves

Not Ours Alone

We are connected
part of the body
owned by our Master
our Savior, the Christ
Part of the body
of the living presence
together with others
a holy temple
in service to our neighbors
in fealty to God
servicing as we are sent
to the ends of the earth

A Temple of God

Not something base
to be defiled
a temple of God
to be honored
God redeemed us
brought us back from the dead
together we are a temple
with Christ as the head

You are not your own

When we are called
when we accept
falling to our knees
coming to the feet of Christ

We are changed
brought back from the dead
bought with a price
no longer our own

Christ has claimed us
redeemed us, restored us
for God’s holy purpose
revived, reborn

We are slaves of a new Master
sheep of his flock
sent to the world
a message of God

A Slave when I was Called

God pulled me
up from the pit
a slave to the earth
when I was called

A slave to Christ
to the way of the cross
yoked with my Master
that I may walk

Up onto the waters
bold in my faith
seeking him always
all of my life

Going as the Spirit leads
words to share
giving my witness
all of God there

Raymond A. Foss, a poem by Zachary Collie

Raymond Foss is the poet I chose.
According to his poems only heaven knows.
He was born April 1, 1960.
We don’t know if his parent’s were fifty.

Westfield, Massachusetts was where he was born.
I think that his daddy may have blown his horn.
He has four sisters and brothers.
We know that there were no others.

The University of New Hampshire he did attend.
Bachelor of Arts in Political Science earned in the end.
He also earned a Master of Public Administration.
He graduated from Pierce Law Center with great admiration.

He married Ruth Foss.
He will tell you that it was anything but a loss.
Erica, Shayanne, and Shanequa three girls they had.
They were both so very glad.

He practiced law to earn a living.
Poetry was his true giving.
11,434 poems he has written.
With his love for poetry, he is like a kitten.

He said that his poetry is a gift from GOD.
No one would think that this is odd.
He created a site called Poetry Where You Live.
All he wants to do is give, give, and give.

He said that with poetry you can paint a picture.
You can capture a moment in an adventure.
A smell, a scene in a handful of words you can create.
When writing poetry he will not hesitate.

His favorite book is The Bible.
It is the one thing that is still reliable.
His love for his family is unending.
His love for his GOD is without an ending.

Indentured Servants

Freed from the world
exchanging masters
choosing to submit
as he did in Gethsemane

Indentured servants
yoked to our brother
following Christ
from death to new life

Serving together
bound to one another
using gifts as one
one body of Christ

Each with talents
to raise up our neighbors
together serving
to carry his light

One message, one purpose
all of us together
yoked with one another
to be his hands and feet

Reaching further
in working together
being salt of the earth
and a light to the nations
