A Calling to Write – v4

Not something oblique,
something unclear, ambiguous;
Not with words grandiose,
a calling to write clear and terse.

Called to share freely from God
to the ends of the earth;
Comfort, hope, one truth revealed,
the love of Christ complete.

Poetry, beauty, love
in a straightforward voice;
A message from God
the words I hear in my heart.

By God’s grace alone
we are made whole;
Our eternal lives restored
to wonders untold.

Faithful, yet unfaithful – v3

Feeling torn, ever,
not settling in one place
waxing and waning, moving,
unable to choose my path
feeling that one is in conflict
with the other, the last;
Not seeing how to do both
to walk in both ways, two paths,
needing somehow to choose
to make my own way.

Faithful, yet unfaithful,
in failing to choose
to walk in one path
with nothing to lose;
How can I preach
How can I share God’s Word
if I am too timid
to go forth as He calls me
to walk boldly on the water,
to go into the world.

voices of doubt – v3

voices of doubt
from within, without;
pulling, tugging
tearing me apart

unsure of the path
the way to my purpose,
stuck, bound in place,
limping on a shared journey

voices of doubt
weighing me down, chains;
like the winds on the water
making Peter drown

Known within these walls
a member of the flock
yet a stranger within the gate

Awkward in my spirit
pacing in the hall
wondering why I don’t fit in
that I don’t belong at all

Changing My Direction – v3

My path not working
of that I am certain;
changing my direction
slowly, slowly,
to the calling of the Lord

Hearing the guidance
of God’s Spirit
trusting in His plan,
but wanting control
far too timid, fearful

Tentatively, unsure
not trusting enough yet;
stepping out in faith,
“here I am, Lord;
fill me, use me.”

Standing in the Winds – v2

Standing in the winds
as much within as without;
feeling myself buffeted
tormented by doubt.

Wanting to walk boldly
across the living water,
to move with a purpose
into the arms of our God.

Standing in the winds
buffeted by doubt,
wanting to break free
to walk with a purpose,

Wanting to be faithful
in my actions as in my words;
stepping out boldly
in a leap of true faith.
