Hearing Her Voice
The voice of this angel
known to me
hearing her voice
in the choice of scripture
the hymns to share
and the words of her prayers
Knowing some
at least a part
the joy in these words
needin to be shared

Others See Our Witness
God and others
the people we meet
those who see what we say
what we do in this life
Others see our witness
our worship all our days
whether we follow the world
or our God always
Work and worship together
our play as well
all of this testimony
to the things we hold dear
Life is undivided
not carved out in segments
all of this is our worship
in every breath we take
Treasures in this world
harkening to its calling
or cleaving to our God
the source of all our strength

On the Potter’s Wheel
My clay, though aged
not as in my youth
yet supple to his touch
to his loving hands
Sitting on the potter’s wheel
my clay in his hands
to be restored by his touch
to be transformed by his command

Going back on the potter’s wheel
Understanding the father,
perhaps in a different way
the creator, our savior
gathering us in
his arms open wide
taking in our brokenness
placing us
back on the potter’s wheel
changing us
molding us
new clay may we be
able to move, to flow anew
shaped by the potter once again

Gathering My Pieces
When I fall, when I stumble
fall to the ground
God gathering my pieces
spread upon the ground
Picking me up
with his loving hands
reworking my clay
for his purpose
Leading me on
to do my master’s will
Showing me the way
ever onward
to bring God’s light
to this troubled world

Limiting Our Joy
How much we miss
seeing Christ’s face
the love of God
in his gift of grace
Limiting our joy
in trying to measure
to earn by our works
the entry into heaven
Why do we judge
against the old plumb line
the covenant today
in the blood of Christ
We only must turn
from the clay, the earth
to the love of God
for the whole world

By Human Measure
Culling the faithful
setting up criteria
by human measures
judging other people
Forgetting divine grace
God’s redeeming by love
cleaving to the law
as if that can restore
False measures only
under the new covenant
the blood of the lamb
healing us by faith
Only to believe
baptized into the waters
guiding by the Spirit’s calling
out into the world
Doing our part
using our gifts, our talents
sharing our witness
God’s grace in the days
all the days of our lives

In the Rain, in that Place
I remember one Veteran’s Day
the stillness, the tears
the overwhelming consequence
in the rain, in that place
Ten years after
the scar cut into the land
the men coming home
to this hallowed ground
Tears of strong men
who answered their countries
falling in the rain in this place
on this holy ground

Forever May They Burn
Our candles burning
brightly in the light
not hidden under covers
up on the mountaintops
Sharing with others
the flames together shining
brightly shining, ever
until the whole world is alight

Feeding the Fire
In lighting our candle
in shining our light
feeding the fire
that all would see
Kindling their flame
in the burning of our fire
brighter and brighter
feeding the fire
God’s love shining
when we share his grace
our witness leading
others to see his face
Ours is to shine
a beacon in the darkness
leading others to shine
their lives in holy witness

All of us burning
All of us burning
with the Spirit’s fire
called to shining brightly
to become a brush fire
Sharing our witness
our faith in almighty God
our belief in his grace

To burn with his fire
to go the way of the cross
sharing God’s love with all

One Candle Lighting Another
Shining together
each one brighter
shining together
creating a brush fire
Empowering each other
witnesses together
offering freely
the gifts of our lives
Born of the one light
the rising of Christ
shining brightly
in this earth, the dark
Together burning
ever brighter still
together shining
that the whole world may live

His Light Growing
Each candle lighting
each one brightly
shining together
creating a brush fire
Shining together
His light growing
each believer burning

Each candle lighting
others in turn
sowing seeds of his fire
oh may they burn

His Sacrifice
His sacrifice complete
knowing what was to come
coming down to earth
going the way of the cross
His sacrifice unfathomable
choosing to die for us
living humbly as a servant
taking on our stain
Turning his life over
paying the ultimate price
sacrificing himself on the cross
that we would see paradise

His Sacrifice Greater
Understanding in a small way
some of what he gave
his sacrifice greater
the consequence immense
Yet on these days
of memory of their service
a hint of the grace of God
in coming to the earth
His gift unconditional
not based on our worth
giving his all for us
that we could have new birth
Their sacrifice reminding us
of what he did for man
going the way of the cross
part of the Father’s plan

Fair to Compare
Though they are flawed
human motives blurred
maybe not so pure of heart
as the one who climbed the cross
But fair to compare
a sacrifice for us
for the greater good
not focused on themselves
So many veterans
those who chose to serve
sacrificing all for us
that we would be free
Like Christ in service
submitting their will
offering their lives for us
that we would truly live

Unable to Repay
We must never forget
conscious of their sacrifice
unable to repay
the awful price they paid
We must be faithful
to the cause their fought for
freedom is not free
it requires vigilance
Faithful to the dream
of life and liberty
taking up our cross
for all eternity

Reminding me of Christ
So human, so real
their sacrifice complete
serving their people
that we would be free
offering their lives
reminding me of Christ
giving their all
helping us to believe
in something nobler yet
the love of God revealed
in the sacrifice of Christ

Because of their service
Because of their service
carrying their cross
choosing to serve
paying an awful cost
The pain of their scars
sometimes within
some going to the grave
that we may truly live

Because they served
Remember them always
those who went for us
because they served
we have life, liberty
happiness inside
what we make of it
because they served

In real presence
if we only knew
the healing of our witness
standing with them
sitting in silence
in real presence
such healing to convey
offering a hand, hope
strength for another day
we can share with each other
passing, fitful, driveby greetings
or we can share Christ
in real presence with one another
sometimes silence
listening to them
all that someone needs
not solutions to their problems
the healing of our witness
standing with them
sitting in silence
in real presence
such healing to convey
offering a hand, hope
strength for another day
we can share with each other
passing, fitful, driveby greetings
or we can share Christ
in real presence with one another
sometimes silence
listening to them
all that someone needs

A Depth of Faith
Turning to God
knowing we are his people
those he has saved
by the depth of his grace
Turning from the world
believing in his promise
going where he leads us
knowing we will be fed
A depth of faith
the certainty of his people
the sheep of his flock
following the master’s calling
Trusting in him
the unseen creator
feeling his presence with us
the warmth of his loving hands

Freeing Us from Slavery
Our faith, believing in Christ
in the love of God
believing in his promises
redeeming us from death
Freeing us from slavery
that we may truly live
sharing God’s goodness
to everyone we meet
Trusting in God
for he will provide
following where he leads us
unafraid of the other side

Filled with His Word
Oh, That we would worship
offering our lives to God
that we would be filled
overflowing with his word
A prayer, Our lives different
set apart from world
guided us ever
by the leading of the Spirit
Hearing, The calling of God
burning deep within our hearts
leading our steps
that we would be his hands and feet
Witnesses, The very presence of God
in his image he made us from the clay
the Spirit in us, that we would offer up
humbly, our lives to him always

Look to God
Worshipping Him
all of our days
looking to God
not to the world
for all of our needs
trusting in Him instead
So hard to do
in this present age
the lie of the self-made man
ringing loudly in our ears
as if we were all we need
Praising God all of our days
cleaving to our king
mindful of our distance from him
the creator of heaven and earth

All of Our Needs – 2
If we have eyes to see
honestly look around
God is the one
providing all of our needs
to all the creatures on earth
Providing enough
hearing our cries
our prayers in the night
God meeting all of our needs
showering us with his loving grace
merciful in all he does

Crowned with Salvation
Maybe not with diamonds
not with pearls or other jewels
the saints more humbly serving
walking on this earth
But oh what a bounty
endless gifts of God’s grace
the saints bound for glory
crowned with salvation
entering the pearly gates

Crying Out
The saints are the ones
crying out for the others
those who are lost,
those who are in pain
needing the presence of God
Doing all in their power
to bring them closer
into the arms of the Lord
Serving as they are able
that all would be restored

Joyous
Happy in God’s goodness
raining down on others
prayers and efforts answered
by our sovereign Lord
Hoping for transformation
that all would come to know Him
seeking only comfort, healing
for everyone we meet
Joyous in the moments
the bits of grace writ large
the moments of saving
when someone turns to the Lord

Not in Tangible Things
Hard for the world to understand
trusting in the unseen
the living power of Christ
not in tangible things
Focused not on things of this earth
but in heaven above
serving humbly our risen king
going where we are led
Trusting in God, his infinite love
persevering in faith
being the hands and feet
leading others to Christ
by humbly sowing His seeds

Hungry to Know Him More
Now that I have come to believe
hungry to know Him more
to understand the love of God
the grace of Christ come down
Something of what it means to be hungry
hungry for the Lord
aware of my distance from him
yet by grace I am restored
Wanting to see Jesus
to walk in His ways
seeking to be worthy of grace
in my walk all of my days

Hungry for His Word
The idea of being hungry
in the Beatitudes
not so much physical poverty
as much as hunger for the word
not so much being poor
in the way of this world
being aware of our humbleness

Before we accepted the grace
Do you remember your past
no matter how recent
before we accepted the grace
the sacrifice of Christ
Our lives so different
before we accepted Christ
before we were guided by his love
selfishness, ignorance instead
Needing to keep the mirror close
to remember our stain
though it was washed away
by the blood of the lamb
Never ceasing to be grateful
ever praising our king
singing out our hosannas
letting our praising ring

Difficult to love someone
Hard to love our enemies
those in distant lands
difficult too to love
someone making our lives miserable
hard to understand
Christ’s message clear
opposite from the world
to love even our enemies
even those who persecute you,
everyone, all of mankind

The hardest teaching
The hardest teaching
we will ever hear
to love those who hate us
our enemies far and near
Our Lord speaking
even in His death
forgiving those who killed him
each one of us
To love not our friends only
those we hold dear
to love also those who hate us
our enemies far and near

Never Forget

we were destined for darkness

His grace, His love

When We are in the Light
When we are in the light
the grace of God shining
the love of God raising
us from the grave
Needing to be mindful
not forgetting the darkness
the pit of our lives
when we were under the law
By grace only
gathered from the four winds
all of us sheep
of the one flock of the king
We are to remember
to share the love of Jesus
the depth of his mercy
for this he came down
Taking on our stain
the sin of the ages
dying that we
would rise in glory with him
Remembering to be witnesses
to sharing this holy message
despite the slings and arrows
standing up for the right

Standing in the Light
We are standing in the light
after Christ’s resurrection
people of faith standing together
the gathered sheep of His flock
We forget the darkness
where we wallowed
before we believed
when under the law
Needing to remember
ever and always
the depth of His grace
the awful price that He paid

Constantly Fed
Living as worship
walking with the Lord
seeking only his goodness
comfort in his word
Constantly fed with his true
the story of the saints
the joy in his humble sacrifice
the hope in the way of the cross
Coming into worship
as I wake each day
hoping to be worthy
as I walk on the servant’s way

Worship God Always
Not just on Sundays
all the days of the weeks
worship God always
singing praises to our king
Share with others
as did the Christ
offering love
to everyone we meet
Act out of our belief
cleaving to our God
serving where we are led
answering when he calls.

A Flowing River
In living water
a flowing river
the thread of the faithful
rushing to heaven
to the gate of the kingdom
ever and always
All of us part
of the living waters
the body of the church
from the beginning of time
all of us part
flowing like a river
washing on unknown shores
to the end of the age
