#Thankful for the Gifts – v2

A moment abundant in blessing
Summer sun shining radiantly,
on the birch cross, a gift,
the focal point, the reason,
planted within her labyrinth.
 
A rich layered moment,
thankful for the sun, for the Son,
the cross, the way to life,
believing, seeing,
walking on our path.
 
Light, giving sight,
offering hope, the narrow gate,
the path leading to the cross,
the radiance of the Son,
illumining our way.

Nightfall – v7

The sun drops below the shoreline, the forest beyond;
Summer sky aglow, mirrored skin of the water
Ablaze in oranges, yellows, and shades of black.
 
Nightfall comes to the quiet, still, lake.
 
With effort I pull and push my canoe away from shore,
Longing for home, longing for warmth.
 
Waves swelled and fell, the canoe pitched and bobbed.
The paddle blade births luminous eddies by my side.
 
Great blue heron, regal, majestic,
Perches on a skeleton of an ancient pine,
Silhouetted before an Oriole sky.
 
Crossing the silken waters, no roadway, no map,
Colored lights on a deck, Elvis on the stereo.
 
Easy laughter rises from an invisible porch,
Dark houses, silent waters, failing light, all in shadows.
 
A beaver before me, swimming out in the lit waters.
He slaps his tail and dives, shallow near shore.
We cross again, again, repeating this dance.
 
A light flickers in my window, dimly through the screens,
The open porch calls me, my cabin in the lake, guides me home.
 
Night all around me, the world is still.

Leaving stones for others

the same steps Christ laid before us

seeking to walk in the way

God has written for us.

 

Leaving stones for others

(but not what they may want to hear)

those walking on the wide path,

the road of Hell, of this world.

 

Leaving stones for others

pavers of the way to salvation

the same steps Christ placed before us

our risen Savior and Lord.

Let us pray -

 

Use us, oh God,

shine your light through us;

Let us be Your hands and feet,

Your voice in the world.

 

Strengthen us with this food,

the bounty of your provision;

May this food be a blessing,

renewing us from within.

 

May we gain rest,

in this night, our sleeping;

Help us to commit to You

our morning, our breathing.

 

Use us, oh God,

let us be Your light bearers;

May we walk the path

of Jesus, our Savior.

 

Amen.

put a hedge of protection around me

Oh Father God in heaven,

oh Risen Lord Jesus,

oh indwelling Holy Spirit,

come down and touch me,

walk here beside me.

 

Put a hedge of protection around me

fill that hedge with the precious blood of Jesus,

our Risen Lord and Savior

who came and walked in the flesh.

 

Guide me and Protect me

lead me and save me

while I walk here on earth.

 

Amen.
