All scripture is useful – v2

All scripture is useful,
God-breathed wisdom
an instruction manual,
a lesson plan, a cookbook,
on how to live in this life…

All scripture is useful,
for our daily living, our journey,
how we live into our calling,
our purpose for God’s Kingdom,
as we traverse, as we travel
as we walk in this life…

God-breathed Wisdom – v2

God-breathed wisdom,
Written, gathered,
Held in our hands
Words of scripture
A gift from our Creator
To guide us, to teach us,
To lead us to heaven
To rebuke, to correct us,
To perfect us for life…

God-breathed wisdom
Words of holy scripture,
The story of Christ
Lessons He taught us,
How God came to save us,
To lift us, to restore us,
To life, in abundance,
The path to heaven
At the end of this life…

#Capitalism is not #Christian – v2

The most for our shareholders,
short-term profit at all cost,
standing on our neighbors
not caring for the outcomes
the pain in other places
focused only on the immediate,
on lining our own pockets.

Capitalism is not Christian
taking, gathering, profiteering,
creating wealth for its own sake
maximizing for ourselves
silos full, barns overflowing,
standing on our neighbors
the garden polluted, raped
plundered for short-term profit.

proved genuine

in her faith, her service
her joy will be complete
after the fire, the struggle
the trials of this walk, this journey
proved genuine through the refining
through this time of suffering
the Spirit alive within her
holding her, lifting her up
sharing the good news of God

Pooled their resources – v8

The first church, together
at the beginning,
starting in Jerusalem,
one body, one journey in Christ

A single life together, sharing
in study, in worship;
Eating the common meal together
sharing the prayers of the believers

They pooled their resources
so that none would know want;
Selling what they owned
worshiping together in love

Focused on our Savior
the disciples gathered together
doing the Master’s work;
Serving as they were called
out in the world

With Hope, With Love – v7

Maybe the time is now, today,
to stand for the hopes of the people
that change would truly come
to balance the scales of justice;
That more of our people, our neighbors,
would share the same dreams, together
that the divide of the haves and have nots
would fall from this place.

With hope, with love,
peaceful protest rising
claiming a chance to dream,
to see a future for our children;
Opportunity for the many
not wealth in but a few hands,
sowing seeds of protest
in this troubled land.

Acting as the Christ modeled
truly loving our neighbor
understanding all too well
the powerful want to hold onto power;
Yet not giving in to their greed
to their injustice, in tolerance,
marking this time to speak
to stand with our neighbors.

Doing what is right,
in this time, in this place
lovingly, shining the light
carrying the cross of Christ;
Hope into the darkness, this troubled world
healing the breach caused by man,
going as servant, throughout this land
doing all that we can.

With Love, Not with Hate

Righting injustices
standing up when opportunity calls
doing what is right
with love, not hate
this we honor, on this day
the man, the dream, the cause

Acting as the Christ did as he,
Healing the sick on the sabbath;
marching in the face of injunctions
understanding the wrath of power
doing the right thing
no matter the cost to them

Doing the right,
lovingly, shining the light
hope into the darkness
healing the breach caused by man
going a servant, bearing the cross
doing all that he could

“changing the wind – v2”
December 7, 2007
“changing the wind”
Based on the comments of Jim Wallis on
Speaking of Faith, November 29, 2007
He was talking about whether to change politicians
or change the wind, to change the public opinion
which guides politics. He used the example
of President Johnson’s statement to the
Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that it would
take 5 years for a voting rights bill but
it actually took 5 months to pass the Voting Rights Act,
after the March in Selma.
