I
gathered the stones, the ingredients,
new
potatoes, onions, fresh butter,
the
fish for the chowder
ready
to add the milk, the cream,
a
pot simmering on the stove.
Hard
tack bread, a crisp baguette,
sliced
thickly, made ready,
more
of the butter set on the table,
sipping
hot coffee of the morning
thick
with hope, with chicory.
Opening
the bags, the aromas,
adding
fish, clams, spices,
a
bouquet, a leftover chowder,
gathered
from many meals,
flavors
of the Vineyard.
