Sneakers of mud

Squish between my toes

Move to the music

Unhinge my spine;

Don’t think, dance!

Rain upon me

Melt my tension, stress,

Don’t have a care

Feeling the deep bass

Drumming of the African beat.

Camera and backpack

Swing, I sway,

In place, in bliss;

In Congo Square -

Don’t break the spell!

I saw the wedding couple riding in a carriage

in the French Quarter that night.
