The
Big Easy, New Awlins,
A
world away, a lifetime,
so
different, so foreign,
From
my home, my experience.
My
ears rang and sang
With
the loud jazz music
Jambalaya
/ red crawfish taste like magic
To
my tongue, my mouth
The
crowds, colorful noise, spicy chicory coffee
Music
like a brush fire.
I
see it all/hear it all, still again,
Hot
jazz, cool riffs,
Rhythm
and movement
Hips
grind to the tempo, percussion
Body
sways, caught in that place.
I
lick my lips and smile
in
the memory, the cascade, crescendo
For
the music and food
Of
my soul, of life.
