to come before You – v2

Oh to be so bold
to come forward
without fear
even though You are God
to come before You humbly
at the end of my life

There would be
joy in my heart
steeling my trembling knees
Your Spirit within me
Your Spirit would lift me, would guide me
lifting me to my feet

I pray I will be
ready for that day
the brightness of that morning
That I would come
into Your presence
That I will walk with You forever

In Reds and Yellow – v2

In reds and yellows,
in greens and orange,
God sharing autumn with us
in the colors of the leaves

So much of grace,
of God’s love raining down,
in the witness of the maples
and the other trees

All of creation singing,
in the preparing for slumber,
yet a promise in the dying
of the spring and the summer

Joy in this season,
God’s love raining down,
in the reds and the yellows singing,
to the heavens, glory to our God

Sow Your Seeds – v2

Sowing the seeds we are given
new life in the ground
sowing the seeds richly
across the face of the earth

Nothing to be left in our bags
empty when we are done
planted and watered in Your garden
our work here on earth

Watered with our gifts
offering our lives to Your hands
our part in Your plan
leaving the rest to You oh God

Letting them grow in the Son
in Your time alone
faithfully tending the earth
as You alone command

Like Strands of Silver

Like arms of gray
like strands of silver
braided, and twisting
rising from the ground

The bodies of the supple dancers
their lithe torsos, arms
entwined in the melody
frozen for eternity

In the fabric
the flesh
of the trunk,
the branches,
some cut off
amputated

Yet trembling
before the woodman’s ax
change coming
the lovers to be cut down
soon, too soon
in the name of progress

Held in Their Arms

Gently held
as if in their arms
before their own dying
gracefully to the ground
One of their brethren
much more than a stranger
held in their loving arms
before they all fall
together to the ground

Breaking Free

The lift of the breeze
pushing against the leaf
the water of the dew
pulling at its edge
The stem breaking free
from the branch of the maple
falling with the confidence
of a platform diver
Like a little bird
bravely flying from the nest
the brilliant color
dying in a beautiful dance
Landing on the carpet
like sunlight on the ground
though much of it in shadows
the yellow all around

Letting go of Life

Wondering for a moment
looking out my window
the moment of grace
when love may step in
joy in dying
in letting go of life
the leaves dying
with such amazing bliss

Joy in Our Dying

Would that we
in the season of autumn
before the slumber of winter
and the rebirth in new life
that we could be joyful
resplendent in that moment
joy in our dying
leading to new life

More Alive in Their Dying

The foliage of autumn
the leaves in their turning
before their dying
more alive than most

So many going
moping through their days
needing to look up
more blue skies that gray

Each of us gifted
a creation to ponder
the hands of the master
bringing all into life

All of us journeying
walking this earth
we should be joyful in our dying
bringing us new birth

Ablaze this morning
looking out my window
the sun coming down
burning off the clouds
the roadway beyond
through the branches of yellow
the golden dying
of the maple and elm

Called Clearly

Clearly, when the trumpet sounds
called in the whispers of His voice
from deep within our hearts
from our complacency
from comfort, the familiar
urgently, called
from the couch, the TV,
from the desk, our work
out from the pews
out into the world
to go and do
to live, to follow
the calling of Christ
the voice of the Shepherd
all of our days
worthy of His name
to wear our robe and crown
forever, eternally
all of God’s days

Called to Come

Each of us in turn
at a time specific
known only to God
called to come
to come before our Maker

Too late for regrets
for what might have been
better to live each day
each moment of our lives
as if this may be our last

By Name

Christ will call us
He calls us still
by name the Shepherd calls us
calling us to Him
to follow where He leads us
to lead us home again

Justified by Christ

Not by the work of my hands
the things I have done in my life
only by the grace of God
may I live again

Justified by Christ
by his love alone
rising from the stone cold grave
to my heavenly home
