Like trumpets of the Levites
sounding their call
calling at the tent of the meeting
the tulips before the church
swaying in the warming breeze
a chorus, an orchestra
singing their praises to God

As to the Touch of the Potter
From the earth, the ground
made of the stuff of this world
made holy, worthy
only by the workings of his hands
Transforming me from the inside
chiseling me from without
making me a worthy vessel
only by the workings of his hands
As to the touch of the potter
the artist working with my stone
rough-hewn and uneven
until he makes me his own

Giving to His Chisel
Like the clay upon the wheel
rough-hewn stone of the builder
giving to his chisel
to the work of his loving hands
Guided by his spirit
living within us
conformed to his touch
making us worthy
the work of his loving hands
rough-hewn stone of the builder
giving to his chisel
to the work of his loving hands
Guided by his spirit
living within us
conformed to his touch
making us worthy

Like the Potter
Like the potter
with his hands on the inside
and the outside of the bowl
molding us, on the wheel
Shaping us, chiseling
the rough edges
the rough-hewn stone of our lives
giving to his loving hands
Submitting our lives
our bodies given over
preparing us
new eyes, new bodies
living in the new Jerusalem

Rough-Hewn Stone - v2
All of us on a journey
with Christ on our inside
the Spirit indwelling
pure and perfect
rough-hewn stone
on the outside
needing to be made holy
Working ever
to smooth the edges
to walk closer to him
following our savior
all the days of our lives
nearer to God
so we pray to be
with Christ on our inside
the Spirit indwelling
pure and perfect
rough-hewn stone
on the outside
needing to be made holy
Working ever
to smooth the edges
to walk closer to him
following our savior
all the days of our lives
nearer to God
so we pray to be

None Like Him
Truth in his statement
that none of them could follow
he alone going
the lamb choosing to be faithful
going the way of the cross
None like him, before him,
none would come again
paying the ultimate cost
the priest making one sacrifice
atoning for every sin

Like None Before Him
This one priest
the lamb, the sacrifice
going where none could follow
climbing up onto the cross
to become God’s sacrifice
Giving himself for us
taking on our sin
glorified in his obedience
and the father with him
His life prepared for this day
his passion revealing
the fulfillment of all prophecy
he alone sealing the breach
since the fall of man
bringing us back to God

Glorified
The father and the son
God and Christ
by his faithfulness
by their love
fully aware
of all to come
going forward
his face on Jerusalem
never wavering
obedient, as a servant
the lamb, even to the cross
the perfect sacrifice
redeeming the world
back to God

Obedience to God
To the cross, walking
glorified by the father
ever his walk leading
faithful to God’s call
though he was fully human
knowing his suffering

the darkness of this life
lost, confused

Relying on scripture
the holy word of God
grounded in tradition and reason
in community and in my mind
Feeling the presence of God
as I walk this earth
trusting in his promise
that I will have eternal life
Using my experience
all that I believe, what I really know
to proclaim the word of Christ
to the ends of the earth
Sent into the world
all of us sent as they were
to spread the message of God’s love
until all have truly heard

By the flowerbed

already blooming
movement catching my eye

working as it does

Witnesses
Witnesses to the truth of Christ’s love
his sacrifice on the cross
and the join of his raising
Testifying to what we have seen
God’s promises fulfilled
the love of our creator
pouring down on us
Feeling the hands of the potter
working us on the wheel
helping us to be worthy
vessel for the king
his sacrifice on the cross
and the join of his raising
Testifying to what we have seen
God’s promises fulfilled
the love of our creator
pouring down on us
Feeling the hands of the potter
working us on the wheel
helping us to be worthy
vessel for the king

All of Us Called
Some out of a vision
a personal encounter
others in a voice
speaking from within
a friend, a stranger
offering a welcome
no matter the means
all of us called
into community by God
Each of us charged
commissioned as the disciples
to go out into the world
and spread his message of love
sometimes uncomfortable
outside our tradition
our experience alone
not giving much help
Leaning instead
on the spirit
God still living
within each of us
speaking the words
when we only have sighing
guiding us on
that we may do his work
Continuing on
the work of the saints before us
going out, to do the master’s work
telling the world,
the love of the father
that Christ came down
to give us all new birth
Turning our lives over
sheep and shepherds
witnesses, priests
called to proclaim the good news
going boldly, wherever we are called
giving authentic testimony
that all may hear
God’s arms are open,
he is always near

Authentic Witness
The measure of our witness
what we believe in our hearts
what comes out of our mouths
and the work of our hands
Speaking in the seat of power
or, even more, in our community
sharing what we believe
so that all will have heard
Unafraid, boldly
speaking what is true
sharing of the love of Christ
in all we say or do
