Steam rose
Over the ribbon threaded
Through the frozen marsh
This waking
Frost encrusted the
Silent cattails,
Highlighted the skin of
Still-green reeds
Browning leaves, rushes
And skeletal scrub
Ice too soon
But chill only today
Ready to bleed away
With the dawning

Pair
Craning to glimpse
Around the bend
Behind the trees
Hiding in the fog
Our swans
Finding solitude
Beside the other
In open water
Alone together
Away from the bustle,
The noise,
Of the road
Around the bend
Behind the trees
Hiding in the fog
Our swans
Finding solitude
Beside the other
In open water
Alone together
Away from the bustle,
The noise,
Of the road
