The Morsel of Bread – v4

What must he have felt, sharing in the meal
knowing what he knew, what he had done
(but not all of what would unfold)
the invocation, the intoning of these words
these words of the teacher, the master, Rabbi
changing the ancient words of remembrance
saying something entirely new, a new covenant

The morsel of bread dipped, shared from His hands
His words to go, to do that which is planned quickly
what must he have thought, in that moment
the doubt, the confusion, steps set in motion
unable to return, to pull back, the wheels of time turning
His body, His blood, in that bit of bread from Jesus
His sacrifice, wet, dripping on his hands

Running from the room, with the others
out into the cold night, the world, Jerusalem
no longer safe, within the sheepfold, out of Christ’s protection
Did the cold greet him, like a heavy leaden cloak
or did it hasten his steps to the Temple
to spring the trap of evil, to capture
to betray the One foretold, our hope, Messiah

What did he think after that, running to the Temple
his fate cast in the choice that he had made
nowhere left to turn, lost, wandering, caught in this purpose
a captive of the scheme he set in motion
Did he know what was to come, the trial, his crucifixion
or was all of this a mistake, greed raising its head
the coins burning a hole, an ache in his soul

hiding in the ice – v2

a latent danger
hidden while seen
control, an illusion
held by another

hiding in the ice
the moment of death
spun, crash
a life that was lost

the trap yet set
often repeating
for the uninitiated
the complacent
another life out of balance

not silent in our waiting

God is not subtle
we are to be busy
prepared for his coming
doing the work of Christ
We are not to be silent
standing by complacent
we are not to be silent
in our waiting for the Lord
Speak out against injustice
join the burgeoning throng
join with the martyrs
in the servant song

Speak while we wait

We must not be silent
just happy in our own salvation
We must speak while we wait
seeking to end injustice
We are to be a witness
a herald of the good news
but how are we faithful
when so many have no shoes

My God will hear me

I believe in God’s promise
my God will hear me
my hope will be vindicated
I can trust in the Lord
God has been faithful
even when we have denied him
He has stood beside us
all the days of our lives
I know I can trust him
He will save his people
the price already paid
we just have to believe

Being Her Voice

Not knowing fully what to do
in this time, this situation
her pain fully evident
a public act, in private
unseen by others

Being her voice
standing with her
our lives bound to hers
whatever the consequence

for she is our world
Our only option, trust
going into battle for her
believing her completely
because we must

Black Raspberry Blooms – v2

In the lee of the schoolyard
bushes shrouded still
in the shadows of early dawn
lavender purple lilacs,
unopened blossoms

dark shading, color, just like
rich black raspberry ice cream
with the rising of the light,
softening, brightening colors
from that darkness to pale lilac
