hiding on the surface,
the temperature dropping,
different than you imagined
or were you confident
thinking you were invincible?
pearls of water present
on the pavement, the highway,
enticing, tempting
looking so innocent (a trap)
no obstacle, no warning.
yet they were frozen,
rimming the maw
the open space ready
maybe like the sundew
or the mouth of a cavern.
like the Venus Fly Trap
(or maybe the Sundew)
calling with their scents
a gate opened, ready,
waiting;
jaws of the prison, eternity,
ready to spring shut.
