Family memories
scraps and treasures
preserved on shelves
or behind panes of glass,
some hanging frozen
there on the walls;
A treasure trove
captured images of our past
of our families, together,
most without note, provenance,
many generations, branches,
covered in dust, in cobwebs.
So many will be lost with
the passing
of the matriarch, her memory
of the things, their deep
meaning
knowing, remembering, how
they matter
each one special, precious
to her, to all of us.
Who they originally belonged
to,
where they had journeyed in
life,
the hands into which they passed
all of her memories;
Triggers of stories,
feelings,
smell, touch, connectedness
through the generations,
the living of our family
framed, saved, treasured
kept for a reason
these living pieces of us.
