Family memories
scraps and treasures
pieces of our history
preserved on shelves
behind panes of glass
frozen there on the walls
hanging images of our past
of our families, together
many generations, branches,
covered in dust, in cobwebs,
most without note, provenance.
So many to be lost with the
passing
the matriarch, her memory
of the things, their deep
meaning
knowing, remembering
each one special, precious
to her.
Who they originally belonged
to,
where they had journeyed in
life,
the hands into which they passed;
triggers of stories,
feelings,
of smell, of touch, of connectedness
through the generations,
the living of our family
framed, saved, treasured
kept for a reason,
remaining,
living pieces of us.
