Letting my mind wander, meandering,
going where imagination leads me...
So many thoughts and images
thinking about the infinite
the tiny, the unseen,
The power of God in creation
in writing our songs, our stories,
long before we came to be...
 
Grabbing an ethereal canvas, vapor,
Stenciling in lines in silhouette, in shadows...
Precise, intricate drawings, perfect,
written with gilded silver threads,
capturing a whiff of eternity, of creation...
The truth within their song...
A breath, a whisper, a thought,
chiseled on air, panted into stone...
 
Illustrations gathered from the ether,
Our lives are no more than a breath -
Our moments so much vapor -
Snapshots captured only for an instant
as if on the surface of molten glass...
Etchings on droplets of water
before they melt into the ocean...
before they merge with eternity...
 
Wanting to hold these moments...
to freeze time, to treasure, to drink in
These images coaxed from the ether -
A prayer for a future yet unknown -
but feeling the water droplets slipping
like dry sand held in my pursed fingertips...
Knowing they, too, will dissolve into nothingness...
Seconds absorbed into the sands of time...
 
Painting an intricate portrait, immortal,
A mandala of intersecting motions,
on living parchment, gossamer,
Living scrimshaw on the ether -
Etchings on water droplets -
impermanent yet divine...
An image of the Creator
alive, eternal, right now...

Grabbing an ethereal canvas, vapor,
Stenciling in lines in silhouette...
precise, intricate drawings,
written with gilded silver
capturing a whiff of eternity...
The truth within their song...
A breath, a whisper, a thought,
chiseled on air, panted into stone...
 
Illustrations gathered from the ether,
Our lives are no more than a breath -
Our moments so much vapor -
Snapshots captured only for an instant
as if on the surface of molten glass...
Etchings on droplets of water
before they melt into the ocean...
before they merge with eternity...
 
Wanting to hold this moment
to freeze time, to treasure, to drink in
These images coaxed from the ether -
A prayer for a future yet unknown -
but feeling the water droplets slipping
like dry sand held in my cupped fingertips...
Knowing they, too, will dissolve into nothingness...
Seconds absorbed into the sands of time...

A living rainforest – v2

A gift of the Creator,
my eyes open to wonder
to the magic of this moment,
to stop, to lean in
to see more clearly,
treasure in the little…
drawn to beauty,
that surrounds us all…
 
Down on my knees
drawn by vibrant color
a living rainforest
down below the tops
of the wheat stalks
of the grasses…
verdant green calling,
putting on my glasses…
 
Living chartreuse,
shimmering in the sunlight,
the new grass of spring,
now towering over me,
almost iridescent, alive,
drawing me inward,
to live, to explore, richly,
in this precious moment…

A living rainforest

Down on my knees
drawn by vibrant color
a living rainforest
down below the tops
of the wheat stalks
of the grasses…
verdant green calling,
putting on my glasses…
 
Living chartreuse,
shimmering in the sunlight,
the new grass of spring,
now towering over me,
almost iridescent, alive,
drawing me inward,
to live, to explore, richly,
in this precious moment…

A tomato

A tomato from the farmers’ market
early spring, before summer,
warm juice, cathartic,
rich with flavor, authentic.
 
Perfectly ripened, eaten,
just as it is, no salt,
a complement to her cooking,
my snack, my late lunch.

 curled like pencil shavings - v5

the moth’s wings

curled like a dried leaf

wicked of its moisture

rice paper, cardboard,

a sail, bent, turned

wrapped around the axle

the moth’s wings

curled like a fan-shaped coil, a corkscrew,

of long delicate pencil shavings
new, bright colored pencils
a manual pencil sharpener held,

turning, purposely, slowly in my hands

the moth’s wings

curled like a warm potato chip
fresh from the oil, the kettle,
a moth striking a pose
on the side of our building
many days in a row

Falling like a piece of paper - v4

Falling like a piece of paper – v4

a moth startled by my approach

losing its hold on the building
falling like a leaf, like a piece of paper
catching itself, regaining power,
again finding flight

curled like a fan-shaped coil, a corkscrew,

of long delicate pencil shavings
new, bright colored pencils
a manual pencil sharpener held,

turning, purposely, slowly in my hands

soaring away, higher, higher,
wings rigged, now sails,
tumbling, falling no longer
rising in the morning sunlight
its wings alive, aglow, ablaze

curled like a warm potato chip
fresh from the oil, the kettle,
a moth striking a pose
on the side of our building
many days in a row

Falling like a piece of paper – v3

a moth startled by my approach
falling like a leaf
like a piece of paper
catching itself, empowered,
again finding flight

curled like a fan-shaped coil
of long pencil shavings
from bright colored pencils
a manual pencil sharpener
held, turning, in my hands

soaring away, higher, higher,
wings rigged, coiled,

curled like pencil shavings - v4

 curled like pencil shavings - v4

curled like a dried leaf

wicked of its moisture

rice paper, cardboard,

a sail, bent, turned

wrapped around the axle

curled like a fan-shaped coil

of long pencil shavings

from bright colored pencils

a manual pencil sharpener

held, turning in my hands

curled like a warm potato chip

fresh from the oil, the kettle,

a moth striking a pose

on the side of the building

many days in a row

Falling like a piece of paper - v2

Falling like a piece of paper - v2

startled by my approach
falling like a #leaf
like a piece of #paper
catching itself, power,
finding #flight

curled like a fan-shaped coil
of long pencil shavings
from bright colored pencils
a manual pencil sharpener
held, turning, in my hands

soaring away, higher,
wings rigged, coiled,
tumbling, falling no longer
rising in the morning sunlight
its wings alive, aglow

curled like a warm potato chip
fresh from the oil, the kettle,
a #moth striking a pose
on the side of the building
many days in a row
