The fallen go into battle with them
under their body armor
a vyshyvanka, a prayer...
They are protected by their fallen comrades...
 
Every thread is hand-dyed,
dipped in the defender’s blood...
Unwound from the spool, woven,
creating a protective shield...
 
Each shirt, invisible, made of pure linen,
the prayer of this people...
The fabric for each pattern –
the truth of their culture...
 
The memory of the fallen,
a thread in the fabric,
sprinkled with the blood of the defenders...
They guard their hearts...
 
Every thread is woven with love,
creating a chain-mail embroidered shirt,
clinging to the skin of every defender...
They march with a whispered prayer for life...

In this poem, I am trying to convey that the dead of Ukraine,
Your heroes are cloaking every warrior, as if with a new
Vyshyvanka, against your skin, under the armor, the
white fabric's embroidery has been woven with threads
of the blood of the fallen, protecting each of you.
They are your shield, your invisible armor.
I tried to write the poem in the shape of a
Ukrainian Easter Egg, a Pysanky.
Both are so symbolic of Ukraine, the independent
identity of your culture, just as your unique language and history are.

під їхнім бронежилетом
вишиванка, молитва...
Їх захищають їхні полеглі...
 
Кожна нитка пофарбована вручну,
занурена в кров захисника...
Витягнута з котушки, виткана,
створюючи захисний щит...
 
Кожна сорочка, невидима, з чистого льону,
молитва цього народу...
Полотно для кожного візерунка –
істина їхньої культури...
 
Пам'ять про полеглих,
нитка у тканині,
окроплена кров'ю захисників...
Вони охороняють їхні серця...
 
Кожна нитка з любов'ю виткана,
створюючи кольчужну вишиванку,
що прилягає до шкіри кожного захисника...
Вони йдуть із шепотінням молитви про життя...

The threads of their fibers, memory
woven with their precious blood,
All Ukrainians march with them,
destroying their enemy, terror,
as bombs fall upon them,

A cloak of the dead – v3 #Poetry #Ukraine #victory #hope #courage #heroes #victory #Pysanky #Vyshyvanka #Valhalla #protection #armor

A prayer,
a fabric of steel,
a cloak of the dead,
a hedge of protection,
a breastplate of armor
 
Their warriors descending
drawn from rest in Valhalla,
creating a garment, a memory,
new embroidered Vyshyvanka,
 
Stitches of their fiber, memory,
woven with their precious blood,
 
their homeland goes with them,
vanquishing the enemy, terror,
bombs raining down on them,
protected by the warriors,
heroes in their stories
their revered dead
 each one…

A cloak of the dead – v3

 

In this poem I am trying to convey that the dead of #Ukraine,

your #heroes, are cloaking every #warrior, as if with a new

#Vyshyvanka, against your skin, under the armor, the

white fabric's embroidery have been woven with threads

of the blood of the fallen, protecting each of you.

They are your shield, your invisible armor.

 

I tried to write the #poem in the shape of a

#Ukrainian Easter Egg, a #Pysanky.

 

Both of these are so symbolic of #Ukraine, the independent

#identity of your #culture, just as your unique #language and #history are.

Lord, grant me peace,
power in this moment,
let Your faith protect me,
in my body, in my spirit…
 
Defeat every attack,
of the Enemy, of Satan,
do not let me be devoured,
today, in this season…
 
Lord, grant me peace,
let me walk more boldly,
bury Your love in my heart,
speak through me, oh Spirit…

Peace from God – v2

The peace we carry,
joy deep within us
is not from the world
our peace comes from God…
 
Peace from God,
more than everlasting,
informing every steps,
as we journey right now…
 
The peace within us,
life-sustaining, living,
alive within our spirits,
guiding every step…
 
Peace from God
defines us on the journey
gifting us to Love,
to walk in God’s Spirit
to share a life above…

Bile rising – v2

I was facing his demons,
his body tormented,
twisted in fear, in rage,
moving, out of his control…
 
Bile rising, climbing,
from the depths within him,
not wanting to give oxygen,
to ignite his evil, his fire…
 
Sensing the demons,
his body twisted, bending,
caught in the rhythm, cadence,
a dance of his Master…
 
Bile rising, fomenting,
from the pit, from Satan,
demon-possessed, spewing,
Evil, a lie word-salad…

In the Presence of Evil – v2

Knowing without question,
this was an attack of Satan,
a man possessed by demons,
his body shaking, words spewing out…
 
In the presence of Evil,
aware of my surroundings,
yet a bit naked, exposed, his bile
singeing my flesh…
 
His face twisted, distorted,
his whole presence created,
fighting his demons, tormented,
but giving them sway…
 
Only prayer, a hedge of protection.
guarding me from within, without,
against the attack of Evil,
the lies that he spoke…
 
Out in the open, exposed,
chains he carried, pulling his body,
outside the cave, the walls,
the prison of his body…
 
In the presence of Evil,
aware of my surroundings, exits,
yet a bit naked, exposed, for his bile,
his flaming arrows of Satan…

Your words a prayer – v2

Your words are a prayer,
a cloak of protection,
surrounding me with a hedge,
against evil, this battle…
 
I was exposed in the world,
to the bile of his evil,
his words of death,
groaned from his lips…
 
I had forgotten to pray,
for God’s hedge of protection,
but thankfully You cloaked me,
in God’s mercy, His care…
 
I was saved from the spewing,
his staccato of evil, his lies,
by Your words of protection,
by Your breath-prayer…

A banter, a blather,
spewing lies, growls,
a Demon before me
trying to avert my eyes…
 
Possessed by Demons,
chained outside his cave,
taunting, jeering,
seeking my response…
 
Speaking in rhythm, in rhymes,
in grunts, guttural utterances,
a man possessed, dancing,
by the rope that held him…
 
Possessed, seeking, trying,
to draw me into the fight,
unprotected by armor,
not letting my guard down…
 
Speaking in rhythm, in rhymes,
dialogue of horror, of terror,
the enemy testing, jeering,
shaking the ground under my feet…

Demon-possessed man attacked me verbally
while I tried to have dinner-break last night at work…
He claimed to be a black-Irish leprechaun, a unicorn,
from Brooklyn, a former coroner from Miami,
recently released from prison. His banter was
phrases from super-hero, anti-hero dystopia
and horror films, at least in part…
&
I tried not to engage him, not to give more oxygen to the evil
emanating from his words. I knew instantly that this wasn't
an attack from him, but was an attack from Satan, that demons
had control of his spirit. Strange to be aware in the moment.
I know that sounds strange but I am certain. The way his jaw moved
side to side, the way he went from speaking in riddles to grunts and
a word-bile rising from deep down his throat was ugly.
