the death of Christ – v2

the Savior, the Lamb
taking of that cup
drinking of our sentence
tasting our death

perfect through suffering
accepting this sentence, this fate
Christ rising victorious
up from the grave

the Savior, the lamb
climbing that altar
tasting death for us
that we may live again

joy with abandon – v3

we are to let go of the world
of our life’s experience;
we are to be open
to God’s love for us

we are to love like children
to believe quickly
to experience joy with abandon
without thinking, without fear

we are to love like children
to believe in Jesus;
we are to share joy with abandon
from an abundant heart

God still speaks – v2

God still speaks
God still speaks to us
as God spoke in the past
through the prophets, through Jesus

God still speaks
God still speaks to us
offering us hope through
our trials, our journey

God still speaks
God still speaks to us
in the times of struggle
each day to our lives

When Why Has No Answer – v11

Not in capriciousness
in a randomness of fate
a fluke of the cosmic wheel;
But when “Why?” has no answer
how we all can relate

Wondering with Job
how pain, how struggle can be
how innocents are in pain;
When we try to walk righteously
repenting of our sin

Nothing we can comprehend
forces in the world
some roll of the dice;
Leading some to suffer
and some to reap ill-gotten gain

The walk on this earth,
far from the garden where we began,
away from the presence of God;
Faith alone sustaining us
until we reach that Promised Land

Answering the Clay

The potter spoke
out of the whirlwind
answering the claim
rebuking his claims
the demands he dared to speak

A reminder, the distance to God
how far below
is the home of man

Walking in the dust
rather than riding the clouds
Marveling at the works
of His majestic hands

His Comeuppance

In the chapters growing
wondering when it would happen
when his comeuppance
his response would come
Over and over questioning the creator
challenging God, not just asking
demanding an accounting
a justification from the one who made us
A mortal asking for a reason from the potter
stubborn clay, judging God
His answer in the whirlwind
the challenge of the maker
Where were you when I made all?
Who are you to question me;
and what right do you claim
calling me to task?

bound, flesh to flesh – v6

we are one flesh together
consummated by God
in the union of our lives.
we are wound tightly, woven
into one being, united under
God’s law, God’s wish
that we are bound.
we are bound, flesh to flesh,
husband and wife;
what God has joined
let none rip apart.

When Why Has No Answer – v10

Not in unpredictability,
the randomness of fate;
but when why has no answer,
how we all can truly relate.

Wondering with Job,
how pain, struggle can be;
when we try to walk righteously,
repenting of our sin.

Nothing we can comprehend,
the forces in the world;
leading some to suffer,
and some to reap corrupt gain.

The walk on this earth,
far from the garden where we began;
faith alone sustaining us,
until we return to that Promised Land.

Answering the Clay

The potter spoke
out of the whirlwind
answering the claim
rebuking his claims
the demands he dared to speak

A reminder, the distance to God
how far below
is the home of man

Walking in the dust
rather than riding the clouds
Marveling at the works
of His majestic hands

His Comeuppance

In the chapters growing
wondering when it would happen
when his comeuppance
his response would come
Over and over questioning the creator
challenging God, not just asking
demanding an accounting
a justification from the one who made us
A mortal asking for a reason from the potter
stubborn clay, judging God
His answer in the whirlwind
the challenge of the maker
Where were you when I made all?
Who are you to question me;
and what right do you claim
calling me to task?
