A Wet Lump of Clay – v3

Clay, stuff of the Potter,
Dust of the earth,
Needing water
Water of eternity
A spark of the divine
Kept wet throughout,
God’s healing process,
To be molded, shaped,
Starting over,
Again and again,
Back on the wheel
Molded by the Potter’s hands
Until it is finished,
The die never cast,
The final curtain
Waiting until the end
Able to be shaped and reshaped,
Pliable and compliant
To the very end.

Embrace All of Life – v2

Even in exile, in that time of trial,
that struggle far from our comfort zone
far from home and safety,
we are to embrace all of life
the hard and the happy
the pain and the peace
because we are God’s children
and He loves us
and God will hold us up
and gather us in
if we are faithful
and believe
if we trust
in Him

The Green Meadow

God is the green meadow
our place of rest
comfort in our days
of toils in this life

Our strength, our portion
only in the Lord
our shepherd, our master
in him is our reward

Disciplined with Justice

The promise of God
in the gathering storm
in the fire of war
his judgment to come
but not complete destruction
the people to be chastened
to return to the law
disciplined with justice
but not completely destroyed
for God is with us
even in the storm

Conform to his law

Each of our hearts
the treasure of God
that we would change our ways
our hearts to him
conform to his law
all of our days

Not in empty words
falling to our knees
reciting text
others wrote for us
speaking with our hearts
with the substance of our days
looking to his law to guide our ways

His holy word

His holy word
guiding our steps
that we may walk in His ways
that the word of God
would lead us on
all the days of our lives
Mindful of his calling
his commands on our hearts
telling the whole world
of his love for us

Walk in His Ways

Not in empty motion
in hollow rituals
God wants faithfulness
fealty from his people

Walk in His ways
his commandments written
engraved on our hearts
leading our steps

Conform to his law
not the empty rituals
live before him
by his holy word

Clean Water

The water we carry
the water we are providing
in the real world
But metaphor too
The fountain, the spring
living water, the creator
Being the children
in the water we offer
clean water
good news for the world
living waters
the love of God

My Clay

Praying, in the quiet of my heart
my clay, giving myself
my heart, my all
becoming a vessel
worthy for God’s purposes
filled with God’s love
His living water
pure, refreshing
waters for the soul
Let me pour them out,
sharing them, my clay still wet
dripping with the waters of your love

Our Stone in the Road

The Cross, the Christ
our stumbling block, our stone in the road
challenging our love of self
of the world, the polluted waters we drink
lost, wandering in the desert places
Our decision point, to live a little life
half a life, without a core, a soul
or to choose the living waters
the life-changing resurrection
dying with Christ
rising with Christ again
our choice, when we reach
that stone in the road

“Remembering Composer Leon Kirchner
The music world is mourning the death of Leon Kirchner, one of America’s greatest composers. Kirchner died yesterday at his home in New York, the cause was heart failure. We revisit a conversation that Robin Young had with Kirchner before he was honored at Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum earlier this year.”

Still Thirsty

Drinking the waters
polluted waters of the world
the world’s values, agenda
losing sight, focus
on sources of strength
real food, nourishment
Needing the living waters
the fountain, eternal wellspring
the love, the grace, God
pouring into my heart
filling me with the indwelling Spirit
relationship with the Son
my brother, the Christ
Walking with my Savior
refreshed, made whole
no longer thirsty
fed by the love of God

better than anything
