from one to another
joy that cannot be contained
love, grace, hope
spilling out, spilling over
washing out of the vessels
from one to another
sharing the message
the gospel of love
poured down from heaven

in the company of a master
The words of the apostle
to the new church
looking over the shoulder
looking at his words, his works
in the company of a master
writing to his apprentice
to those whom he had taught
how to love Jesus

Laying aside his glory
Fully human, fully God
not emptied of divinity
yet not for the earth
Laying aside his glory
descending to the earth
coming as a man
to give us new birth

Made Himself Nothing
God come down as a man
made himself nothing
dust of the earth
Long before the sacrifice
the journey, the path
from the garden to the Cross
God gave himself for us
that none would be lost
he made himself nothing
by his holy choice
giving himself, emptied
in descending to earth

Speak loudly to us

speak directly to us

speak to our hearts
speak to us, Lord
in parable and rhyme
in words and whispers
speaking to our lives
calling us in love
to walk in paradise
to give us hope
here in this place
speak to us, Lord,
we long to hear your voice

Discerning Our Path

watered by others
each of us serving
tending to the garden
so too discerning

Paying for His Sin
Not that he could do it
not what he preached
yet driven, like a madman
to heal, to reach,
to send a different message
the opposite of what he was taught
bringing Christ’s holy message
so none of us would be lost
Watching, reading,
the words of Paul, of his life
the things he did for Jesus
in the walk of his faith
going to the ends of the earth
walking into trials
converting human hearts
as if trying to pay for his sin
the work of his hands
needing to remember God’s grace
healing the lives of man

---------------
Freeing Truth
Like Abraham, like Paul
saved by faith, by God’s grace
freed from the law alone
living, growing in faith
under Christ’s covenant
saved not by works,
for I will fall short;
saved by the love of God
given to me because I am
accepted by my faith
my belief in him
Turning from that struggle
the not measuring up
finding peace instead
in your everlasting love

A Change of Careers
To understand his present
the future he hoped for
needing to remember
where he had come from before
An elite, a zealot
in the vanguard of his faith
orthodox to the hilt
until he saw the light
Changed forever
utterly reversing directions
going the way of the Christ
led by the spirit,
going to the ends of the earth

What Must the Sound Have Been
The moment of His birth
the angels singing
all of creation resounding
praises in the highest heaven
What must the sound have been
when our Savior was born
the mix of sadness at his descending
but the chance for us to be reborn

Heralding a Savior
The choir of angels
singing with joy for all
heralding a savior
come to one and all
Across the night sky
their harmonies rang out
announcing the birth of Christ,
God, Emmanuel
Just as was foretold
every note, every jot
the fulfillment of all that was
the promise of God
come to earth, a son
With the angels, we now join
their heavenly song our own
the wondrous grace of God
in the coming of the son
just as was promised of old

Human Action/Divine Inspiration
Discernment, which way to go
our path for this life
what we are to do
in the ground, planted
seeds within us
hearts as fertile ground
open to your promise
wanting to be guided
waters of your Spirit;
human action or
divine inspiration?

Discernment coming
Discernment a journey
our hearts the good soil
letting the seed be planted
growing in God’s time
yet more than journey
epiphany, revelation
Discernment coming
in the time of God’s choosing
the fruits of a life of faith
or a moment of grace

Transformed - 2
A word of journey, of moment
of the grace of our God
transformed from our past
in Christ fully restored
changed from the world
in the blink of an eye
in the journey of our walk
our faith in this life
seeking to know
what God would have us do
walking yoked with him
our Savior, our King
changed from the world
our future with him

Not Trusting Ourselves
Knowing our feet of clay
confusion of this world
drawn by the winds, pushed by the tides
buffeted by the storms of life
Not trusting ourselves
to chart the course
needing discernment from the Lord
guiding us to where we should go
submitting our lives to God

Seeing the need for God
Not putting stock in ourselves
trusting in God instead
knowing how much we are weak
needing the rock of Christ
Humble before the Lord
feeling poured, emptied
removed of the spirit of the world
craving to be filled
Seeing the need for God
to rise from the dust
needing his gentle touch
to go and do the work
Seeking to be guided
the Spirit indwelling within
show where to serve
going where we are led

Choosing again a Samaritan
Maybe to shame the people
casting brothers out
maybe to teach them a lesson
by giving them the message
Choosing again a Samaritan
to sharing God’s love
offering them great kindness
revealing a message
hope in the water
in the living word
standing right with us
our Savior, Redeemer
our Lord

Like Solomon’s Prayer
Discernment,
God’s plan for our lives
coming in God’s time
not the time of man
Like Solomon’s prayer
wisdom, eyes to see
a heart open
to your calling for me
A gift of God
an answer to fervent prayer
offering new eyes
to see his will for our lives
Not in our time
in the time of God
just needing to be patience
waiting on the Lord

The Moment of Discernment
Discernment a process
a moment of grace as well
like the workers tasked
doing their job well
Some to sow and plant
some to water, to prune, to care
but trusting in God
to grow the seed
to reap the harvest
in his own time
So as well for discerning
gifts, the path for our lives
to work as we are able
to tend the field of our life
to be the good soil
ready for the seed
to water with the word
letting the Spirit in
studying scripture
spending time with Christ
offering ourselves worthy
a living sacrifice

not by the work of my hands,
created by God,
a gift of his grace
washed of iniquity
covered by Christ’s blood
casting off my old self
moving forward in love
Putting on Christ
the full armor of God
ready for the battle
the work of the Lord
Hoping to be empty
that I may be poured
filled with your Spirit
life, evermore

Putting on Christ
A garment of virtues
the grace of God given
putting on Christ
to guide our way
Mercy as he showed Mary
judged for her behavior
Kindness in his communion
his healing of the lepers
all who came to him
Humility in his servanthood
following the master’s call
Gentleness, when he said,
chiding the disciples,
“let the children come to me.”
Patience with their doubting
their failing to see.
Living in this world
but staying true to God
a model of righteous
what we aspire to be

Feeling You working my clay
a prayer this morning
not for your presence
for I know you are with me;
for awareness, more,
that I would feel your touch
feeling You working my clay
changing me, for your purpose
more and more each day

to be able to be molded

to remain able to be molded
to feel the touch of God

to be clay, giving
not to be hard, like stone
unyielding to your touch
your guiding, your direction
giving to you freely

Thirsting - 2

thirsting, to be filled
coming to the well

emptied of our past
casting out our sin
coming to God empty

Fill my clay
Lord, let me be empty
let me be poor
let me be humble
oh let me be poured
Fill my clay
with your living word
the waters of the Spirit
that I may be stirred
Raised from my seat
up onto my feet
let me be filled
that I may give
let me be poured
that others may live

wanting to be a blessing

Wanting to be clay

but sometimes I am stone
my pride in the way
hard when I should be giving
submissive to God
giving my life as an offering

Your holy Word
Breathing in
new life of the Spirit
casting off the old
the way of the world

A Word of Journey – v1
A word of journey
the guiding of the Spirit
to be transformed
to be made ready
changed from the world
to the purpose of God
fashioned by the potter
made ever worthy
a vessel for kingdom
filled with living water
welling up within us
waiting to be share
to be poured out
to share Christ’s message

They will be filled
Hungry for your word
emptied of the world
ready for your grace
your Spirit to descend
to land upon us
changing us for your purpose
empty to be filled
to be poured out
to share your message
your love for all of us
to don the yoke of Christ
to walk with him ever
on the journey of service
in the way of the cross

Offering Our Bodies
Offering our bodies
our lives as sacrifice
submitting to God
as did the Christ
Going as we are led
letting our clay be wet
giving ourselves to God
wearing kingdom feet
walking in the way of Christ

Denying Worldliness
To be humble, to be submissive
denying worldliness, the way of the flesh
to be humble, like Jesus
in the way of the cross, sacrifice
giving ourselves, all we are
offering God our lives
giving our all

Changed by the Hands of the Potter
On the journey, our walk of faith
changed by the hands of the potter
our clay giving, submitting
to the touch, the pull
the changing, for His purpose
giving to the love
to the grace of God
changed by the hands of the potter
our clay giving, submitting
to the touch, the pull
the changing, for His purpose
giving to the love
to the grace of God

To use our gifts
In some sense, faith
so much to believing
the unseen, the future
the courts of highest heaven
Like the story of the thirsty
finding a pump, dry
being told to prime the pump
to get the living water
Our choice too,
whether to be stingy
to hold the message in our hearts
or to share it freely
We are called to use our gifts
to trust in our Savior
to believe his promise for us
the proof in his giving
Choosing to go to the cross
first to descend from heaven
knowing already what was to come
dying so that we may live
So we are to prime the pump
using our gifts, our water
pouring out that we may be filled
with abundant living waters

Preparing for Their Hearts
Lifting their names up
in this holy space
calling them out by name
sending up our prayers
Prayers for this time
preparing for their hearts
calling your presence to this place
that your grace would win out
The battle lines for such as these
these for whom you came
coming into your course, the young
those who call you by name
That they would be blessed
that this time would be special
that within these four walls
they would hear your voice clearly
singing your love for them

Six new hearts

preparing for them

awakening of their spirits

Laying Down Our Prayers
The words of the pastor
that we were preparing this place
for the young hearts
soon to enter in
to commune with you
to come before the cross
to open their lives to you
if they would make that choice
Laying down prayers
in words from our hearts
in the words of the hymns
song in this place
layer upon layer
calling them name by name
thanking you ever
for such as these you came

Your Faith Remaining Steadfast
Lord, we come to you
we come to your table
humble, shaken
in awe of your grace
your sacrifice so immense
your faith remaining steadfast
true to your promise
no matter how far we wander
when we are defiant
even when we curse your name
thank you Lord Jesus
we are amazed that you came
that you lived for us
emptied of the divine
that you lived to die
buried in the grave

A Sacrament of Love
Nothing but love
the sacrifice of Christ
healing our brokenness
paying our awful cost
A sacrament of love
the bread, the cup
overflowing grace
from the lips of our God
The bread given
dipped in the cup
filled with the sacrifice
blessed by God’s love

A Sacrament of Hope
Our coming forward
eating of the bread, the wine
remembering Christ’s sacrifice
his going to the cross
As sacrament of hope
the proof of God’s love
coming down to earth
going to the cross
Becoming empty
poured out of his divinity
humble, as a servant
paying the price for me
Here at the table
set out for us
remember what Christ did
how he humbly died for us

A Sacrament of Life
In the remembrance, light
the light of the risen Christ
not his death the end
in resurrection, life
A sacrament of life
of the rising from the dead
in rising with the Christ
we too have life
In the sharing we remember
what he did for us
the wine and the bread
the sacrifice complete
His body and his blood
broken, poured out
that we would have new life
through the gate of the cross

A Sacrament of Grace
Christ, in his closing
in celebrating the Passover
becoming the lamb
a sacrament of grace
Changing the ancient words
the words of remembering
that we all would know
a sacrament of grace
In sharing, we are there
with him ever
in the upper room
as one of his disciples
Tasting the bread
drinking of the cup
sensing the gravity
of the meaning of sharing
in his final meal

A Means of Sharing
The Cup, the wine
a means of sharing
in the blood of Christ
the bread, his body
given for all of us
God loves us
willing to sacrifice his son
Christ submissive
laying his life down
We join together
gathered around his table
sharing the ancient meal
transformed by our Savior
Sharing the bread, the cup
his body and his blood
remembering his sacrifice
how our Savior died for us

Confidence in what we hope for – v2
Certainty in God
in the promise of Christ
of all that is offered
faith to move mountains
confidence in what we hope for
assurance for what is unseen

A Sharing in the Body of Christ
Lord, in each of these moments
to be here with you
to feel your presence
humbly coming
coming to your table
to share in the meal
you have laid out for us
That this would be holy
a sharing in the body of Christ
in the means of your grace
offered up for us
that we would sense you with us
that we would be in the upper room
joining with the first disciples
transforming the Passover
sharing the bread and the cup
there with you
as you offered yourself up

For the World - 2
I pray that each of us would be
for the world, the body of Christ,
that each of us would be holy
that we would follow the cross
the way to love
through the gate of Christ
offering to the world
a way to paradise

God can see you
A child on a burning roof
at night, in fear, trembling
crying out for safety
for their parents’ comfort
The parent crying out,
“Jump! I will catch you.”
But the child cannot see;
but the parent says, “I can see you.”
So we are with God,
failing to believe, to see
knowing what we are to do
whether to take the leap of faith
But God can see you
trembling, in the dark
wanting to hold you tight
to wipe away your tears
Oh, that we would each have
Faith enough, sufficient
to jump into the darkness
to trust our Father
will be there to catch,
to lift us, high above our present
to a bright and clear future
to boldly go in faith
following our Master
