the language of the Spirit

a change in tone,
a different purpose,
the language changing
to the language of the Spirit
a word for the chosen people
prophecy, assurance
of God’s protection
all those who will hear
God speaking within them
the language of the Spirit
of God’s chosen people
prophecy, assurance
of God’s protection

the language of the earth

the words of this scripture
written in the language
in the language of the earth
of the conquering nations
the language of the earth
of the surroundings
not the language of the people
of the chosen people of God
something significant
in this difference
in the change the words
when the language changed
the audiences different
not history, prophecy
words for the people
for the chosen people of God

ancient words of truth, of prophecy
dividing by language
of the people, of the world
the chapters of scripture
not in Hebrew but Aramaic
written in the language of the flesh
of the foreign people

written for the Gentiles
not for God’s people
something important in the difference
in the language of the scriptures
what the message is, repeating,
the war on the earth
and the battle in heaven

Something of Heaven – v2

Something of heaven
can be here with us
out of the dialogue
the hearing of the message
the voice of God
a relationship, a way of life
emboldening us, lifting us
within the realities of earth;
something of heaven here
walking here with us

The Curtain of His Body

through Him
we may enter in
the holy places
made accessible
for each of us
while yet vessels of clay
Through the curtain of His body
we may cross over
through the threshold of death
into the kingdom of God.

Pure Water

The blood of our savior
living pure water
washing our hearts clean
our sins cleansed away
Holy, unblemished
able to enter into His presence

the shadow washed with light

until the gathering home

A Living Gate

A doorway, a new path
entering into God’s presence
through the body, the sacrifice
Christ’s body an offering
washing us clean
without stain
entering through
a living gate
into the courts of God.

Risen, Saving Us

One Offering, One Priest
for all time
Risen, saving us
his offering, his life
a sacrifice like no other
never repeated, sufficient in itself
a holy priest, without sin
a sacrifice without blemish
eternal, timeless
risen, now as then
our priest, our savior
forever seated on his throne

This priest, unlike the others
his life within his hands
An offering of himself
Choosing, this pure lamb
offered, to the father’s will
upon the altar of the cross

for the whole world

Our salvation in his hands
offered for us to God

Our Sins before This Priest

Carrying our burdens
entering the temple,
the holy ground
in prayer at the foot of the cross
to your altar, oh Lord

Bringing our sins before this priest
the eternal, the risen Christ
He is unburdened by sin
our sins forgiven in his sacrifice alone
made once and for all
Glory to the king!

Down from His Throne

Descended from heaven
down from his throne
born as a baby,
wrapped in swaddling clothes
to walk as one of us
A carpenter’s son
working with his hands
A shepherd’s son
walking the land
Bringing the lost
to the fields of the Lord
Dying so that we may live
returning to his throne

Our Brother

The king, our savior
our brother down to earth
walking as we do
in the dust and dirt
Hearing the same messages
the same temptations as us
Choosing to follow the master
total reliance in God
Needing the master,
his rod and his staff
Finding strength in his worship
in his preaching and in his prayers
Walking the road to Calvary
whips and the cross to bear
A human dying for all of our lives
so we would find comfort there
In heaven we may claim a room
mansions in the fields
walking with our brother once more
in our eternal home

God, the word

all created by his hand
Spirit, breath of life
Down from on high
to walk a human life
Redeemed by his sacrifice
raised to his lofty height

calling us home to the Lord

Seek God in Solitude

Following the steps of our master
our brother, our savior
taking time, away,
apart from other
in fellowship with our God

Spending time in the word
in the scriptures written long ago
listening for a message
his still small voice speaking
across time, space
speaking to my willing heart

The Lintels of Our Hearts

The blood of the lamb
spirit, life, eternal life
spread on the lintels of our hearts
marking us, a chosen people
set apart in love
passing over our lives
the wrath, the judgment to come
sheep for the pasture
on the right hand of God
wheat for the granary
grapes for the vintner
part of the family
marked by the blood of the lamb

Blood on the Lintels

Blood shed in fulfillment,
willingly spilled for us
spread blood of the lamb
Blood on the lintels, the threshold,
the door frame, the
entrance, the portal
around the chambers
of our hearts
protecting us
from the sins
of the world
That evil would pass us by
that your spirit within us
may defeat the kernel of sin
that shares that inner space,
that grows with the wheat
within us too,
from before our birth
It is the blood of the lamb
alone
that saves us

October 29, 2006 21:03
Exodus 12:7 They shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 8 They shall eat the lamb that same night; they shall eat it roasted over the fire with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted over the fire, with its head, legs, and inner organs. 10 You shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. 11 This is how you shall eat it: your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it hurriedly. It is the passover of the Lord. 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both human beings and animals; on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord. 13 The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live: when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague shall destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.

Psalm 51:5 Indeed, I was born guilty, a sinner when my mother conceived me.

John 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming towards him and declared, ‘Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Hebrews 9:11 But when Christ came as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation), 12 he entered once for all into the Holy Place, not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, with the sprinkling of the ashes of a heifer, sanctifies those who have been defiled so that their flesh is purified, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God!

A City Prepared

A city prepared, a foreign land
made ready for us
unseen by the saints
waiting, prepared for them
the reward of faith
that which is hoped for
that which is unseen
made ready and waiting
for you and for me
if we are ready at His coming
humble and true
