Imprisoned, in
despair, speaking,
“It makes no difference to me,” …
His repeated line of sorrow,
unaware of his place in history…
How wrong he
was, truly,
for his legacy is transcendent, ...
His words were an epithet spoken
He spoke a curse over himself…
“I shall not
leave the slightest trace
upon our glorious Ukraine,”
He cried out in pain, in failure, ...
He whispered from his prison cell…
But in the
pantheon of saints,
Kobzars, the Kozaks, the Hetman,
He is the exemplar, the hero,
He is the Bard, the Poet of Ukraine…
