a sacrifice of blood
within the sweetness
the taste of the smoke;
burning Sunday’s palms
Wednesday’s ashes
the sin offering
the darkness of Friday
foreboding of the season;
His pain and suffering
within the sweetness
of the smoke, palms becoming ashes
the people’s hands upon Him
the fragrant offering;
Christ’s sacrifice worthy
acceptable to God
